Yep, with different tactics he'd have been unlikely to beat Cav for gold but at least had a reasonable chance of silver or bronze.

Just got back from holiday and missed this.

Did the break go away on box hill? Im guessing Cav didnt handle the climbs too well..

He completely lost it on that corner. Seemed to find himself at the front and did not want to be there. Like at Flanders a couple of years back, I wonder if he had one of those gold angels in his back pocket for his newborn.

Some suspicion being expressed about Uran's lapse of attention before the sprint with Vino.

Rotten coverage of this race with respect to the commentary which lacked sufficient information as to where the race was going through and where everyone was, generally. Pity Phil and Paul weren't available as it would have been certainly better.

All in all a damp squib then but after all, it is the British Olympics.

Yes, so far the BBC have got themselves another river pageant with the Shambolics. I know it's not all their fault, but a lot of it is.

I thought the camera bike might have taken that corner awkwardly. Perhaps that diverted Canc's concentration?

When we saw him riding afterwards he looked to be in considerable pain. Collar bone? Does anyone know?

Well, today was the sum total of my viewing the Olympics for the next two weeks. May watch a few minutes of the closing ceremony as it can't be any worse than Friday's monolith of awfulness and kitsch.

It has nothing to do with the BBC, so I don't know why they are getting blamed for this, they are only re-showing the pictures that OBS are broadcasting, the BBC are not the host broadcaster.

Gutted for TeamGB. I see Brad Wiggins and Cav have been on Twitter since this afternoon.

Oh well, I will still go to cheer on Wiggins on Wednesday as all this racing goes right through my neighbourhood.

Incompetent commentator who couldn't even recognise the country jerseys, let alone the riders. BBC.

Incompetant reporter asking inane questions. BBC.

As for Canc, maybe the accident was because of that device on his seat tube, a decoupler I believe. This is to make the bike more comfortable on rough surfaces. The wheelbase on that bike is longer than the standard Madone and both these things may have contributed to his accident. Or maybe not.

...or could not see them properly. See post #1696 on the previous page.

You see the difference race radios make to a race. The GB team though should have been aware of who was in the peleton rather than their own gameplan. I am very disappointed and hope this doesn't serve as a bad omen to the rest of the squad. I hope Lizzie does the business tomorrow.

No, he was fine on the climb, just not enough firepower at the front of the peloton.

Vino got his chequebook out again?

Fair point, but couldn't the BBC have spotted the problem and done something to sort it out before the race started? For example, there's no need for the commentator to actually be anywhere near the race.

I think Uran was looking back to see how close the chasers were. Vino just saw the opportunity & took it. Anyone with any sense would have done the same. Vino would probably have out sprinted him anyway but why take the chance?

It's not that he takes a long look back; it's that when he turns back round he does not immediately check his opponent. Instead he inattentively drifts towards the barrier. Maybe he was completely stuffed and not used to sprinting the last couple of hundred metres for the line.

Cycling Weekly says the BBC has registered a complaint with OBS about inadequate race information.

Good. So should all the other broadcasters who took that OBS feed IMHO.

Also, Vino is a very experienced and competent rider, so it's not a surprise if he comes out best in these sorts of situations. I was a fan, not any more. But he is still a good rider

The BBC is even investigating ways they an improve the race information themselves.

I'm absolutely gutted for the five of them, but especially Cav, will he ever get an Olympic medal?

Bloody strange that finish , he knew Vino was over his right shoulder so why look over you're left shoulder at all ?, not only that but look over it for what seemed like an eternity just a few hundred meters from the line ? Vino was as good as over the line by the time he looked back , strange
