Well I'm one of these kind of new converts. I can understand VincentH's frustration with the kind of person who is not only new to the sport but simultaneously thinks they already know everything there is to know. There are tons of that type in the London2012 forum on DS today - having a right go at TeamGB re. yesterday. If they were all willing to ask questions and learn rather than pontificating it would be fine.

Newsflash - we just got a silver medal in the women's road race. Lizzie Armistead. A Dutch rider won the gold.

And interestingly she said she was umming and arrghing whether to go with the break but after seeing the mens race she learnt that it was too hard for those at the back to catch a committed group at the front.

Congratulations to Vos, a strong ride and she showed good strength in the sprint. Our girl did well to grab the silver.

This race was more exciting and had more attacking - maybe the shorter distance contributed. Sean Kelly did say the men's race was too long. Maybe a few fewer circuits of Box Hill might have helped.

That;s true but they won't be sticking around.........

I'm more interested in the people who have loved watching these Olympic races and are tempted to watch the Tour of Spain in a few weeks time or one of the other races coming up in the next couple of weeks

we tend to be fickle as a country, when we won the rugby world cup, everybody became rugby fans, when we won the ashes - cricket fans. This is just an extension of that. Saying that, even if this current popularity gets a few people properly hooked, gets them to shell out a few quid on a bike and fall in love with the sport, ill be happy.

Sorry, but as there has been much discussion about the men's race in this thread I thought that one post about the women's race would be acceptable.

The cycling sites and forums are awash with people you find Vino outsprinting Uran all too odd. They seem to think some sort of pay off took place.

Well done Lizzie.............

Yet again road cycling provides GB's first medal............

Will most of the British guys be in the Vuelta?

Wiggins won't be. Don't think Cav will be either. Froome will probably be team leader for Sky.

I think Chris Froome will probably be Sky's team leader......I don't think Brad will ride, he's had to delay all his 'duties' as TdF winner and he's got to get on with the chat shows and invitation races and endorsement negotiations...........

Cav might ride but if he doesn't Sky have got an excellent younger British sprinter, Ben Swift, who might be given his chance at the top table.

Stannard will probably ride as he missed the Tour

Millar probably will.............

That's the guys from the Olympic team, there'll be other Brits as well plus a lot of the riders who rode yesterday, riding for their professional teams now.

Swift will probably get the sprinters gig and do well. Henao, Uran will also be for the GC with Stannard and at least one more Briton

hi tlp glad to see you're a recent convert.

As for the Vuelta, it's normally shorn of most of the TdF riders because two grand tours back to back is a tough schedule, more so with the Olympics inbetween.

I hope Ben Swift gets his chance with Ian Stannard alongside Chris Froome. It'll be a big tour for him as leader for Sky.

Uran said had nothing left in his legs though claimed he did not lose concentration.

From the video recording it is clear Vino raised from his saddle to attack when Uran was looking over his shoulder. Uran was looking ahead before Vino got any speed or passed him. Uran though was not looking for his opponent and drifted off line towards the barrier.

If he had not lost focus then is there more than one other explanation? If he was completely stuffed then what he experienced as a split second was actually the lapse we saw.

Great transition from the track to the road by Armitstead between Olympics. Vos maintained her dominating form but Armitstead gave her all to run a close second.

Vos is a legend and she's only 25! Olympic gold on the track and the road... world champion on the road and cyclocross... maybe she'll have a go at MTB by the time we get to Rio.

PS it was nice to see that Nicole Cooke looked genuinely pleased for Armitstead in the interview afterwards. Must have been a difficult situation for her to be in.

You can probably find out in due course from these sources:

Vuelta web site (there's an option for English): http://www.lavuelta.com
Twitter feed (seems to be a mixture of Spanish and English): @lavuelta

Sky Procycling web site: http://www.teamsky.com
Twitter feed: @TeamSky

Of course there might possibly be some other British riders on other teams.

The Vuelta web site includes a map of the route, which is all in northern Spain this year.

AFAIK there hasn't been any announcement from ITV4 as to whether they'll be covering it again this year. In any case it won't be Phil and Paul commentating, they're doing the Tour of Colorado.

I was sure ITV is covering the Vuelta, I'm sure someone said on here ages ago...

And if Millar rides it it will be for Garmin, so there will likely be at least one Briton on another team.

ITV are not covering the Vuelta this year. See 24 July post on ITV Cycling's TL: https://twitter.com/itvcycling

I suspect its because Froome, if he rides, will not be going for GC so soon after the Tour and, Henao and Uran do not have a strong British following.

A bit gutted about that actually. I thought they were going to be covering it. I enjoyed Matt and Ned last year and was looking forward to it this year, especially the funky intro music.

Ah crap, I was sure I'd read on here that they were covering it. Bang goes my chances of watching then, I don't get Eurosport

Just wandered into the Olympics forum and made the mistake of clicking on the thread about Cavendish's BBC interview...the number of people saying 'fact is 28 guys finished faster than him' and not accepting explanations from people who know about cycling is a bit infuriating....
