Good to see Wiggins not slinging his bike into a hedgewhen when he dropped his chain

Some shocking stuff going on at the tour of Korea, by the way

The punchline comes when you read down and find out who organises the Tour of Korea

Looks like the British Olympic Association's lifetime bans on drug cheats has been chucked out by the Court of Arbitration

David Millar is available for selection for the GB Olympic team.............would he get in the team nowadays?

Hard to say because the RR is only 5-man teams. And you apparently have to pick the two riders entered in the TT, which is Wiggins and Froome. With Cavendish as leader, that leaves two spots for Millar / Swift / Cummings / Stannard. I'd pick Millar purely for his experience.

I don't think they've picked the team yet but he must have a good chance of getting in as he did a lot of work for Cav in the World Champs

I suppose they have to decide wether to mgo basically with Cav's boys from Sky who he works with all the time or bring in an outsider who might be better at that job than some of the Sky lads

By the way there are 5 Brits in the Sky team for the Giro - Cav, Stannard, Thomas, Kennaugh and Swift.........is that the Olympic Team ?.........

No, because Thomas is doing the team pursuit and you aren't allowed to ride both track and road.

Cav wins the first road stage in the Giro.........another flat stage tomorrow

Taylor Phinney keeps the leaders jersey.........he lost his chain with 8k to go and didn't see him again but obviously he must have managed to get back on the peloton

Yes, ominous for the others. There are half a dozen stages with sprint finished in the first two weeks and Cav could easily win the lot.

Yeah, I didn't think he had a good run at it today. He seemed to get detached from his lead out and got shuffled backwards and sideways so he ended up on the other side of the road from his team

Difficult to tell from the TV pictures but he looked out of it with 500 metres to go

And he still came through and won

He always seems to find a wheel, doesn't he? A bit McEwen-esque.

Is there a cycling or Giro thread or is it this one?

Good result for Sky regardless 2 in top 10, Cav albeit without too much competition bar Goss cruised it, could see him winning a few more before both of them climb off, in the second week.

Not sure what to make of this Giro - fancy Kreuziger but no idea who could end on the podium. Even the favourites, Scarponi, Rodriguez, Schleck could just as easily finish 50th than 1st.

Not sure if that makes it good or bad, but definitely worth following and I reckon a potential for a few quid to be made, even one of the 100/1 shots could end on the podium.

Why can't riders do both track and road?

This is the all purpose cycling thread afaik.

Even Goss didn't look that competitive, short of Cav being way out of position, I'm not sure anyone else is going to win a flat stage.

That's why he's a threat, he can win either way. The classic Cippolini long-lead out train, or the american football-style broken field run.

They're different disciplines as far as the IOC is concerned.

He sometimes has an off day. Not often, but it could happen. There are lots of other good sprinters in the Giro... Farrar can beat Cav if he has a good day. Andrea Guardini is very fast, but he needs help with positioning. Same with Modolo. Roberto Ferrari is worth looking out for, too.

Never really been convinced by Goss, to be honest. He's great in a small group, but I can't remember him ever winning a full bunch sprint.
