Now that it's starting I do remember this Quebec race from last year.............day one is a one-off event where it's a sprint cup. Four men at a time race over 1 kilometre and the first two go though to the next round etc and eventually there's a Final

carlton just saying that the teams who've turned up for the road race tomorrow put men into this sprint race but a lot of them are not really interested and just riding in it because they have to.............so they get knocked out early

sounds like it's a track sprint event on the road...........I wonder how tactical it gets over 1K ?

races about to start...............

Although incredible, it appeared real for a second or so it on screen. A freeze frame revealed the jeans and boots.

There is a Pantani documentary in the offing due for release May next year from the makers of Senna: http://road.cc/content/news/62421-do...nemas-may-2013

Well I think I've got the hang of the various tactics in this road racing malarkey now. It's true what Denley (I think) said further back in the thread: it all makes sense in the end if you watch enough of it. Was even trying to explain bits to Dad earlier as he doesn't watch cycling much.

Am right into it now and looking forward to going to see stage 8 of the Tour of Britain. Can't believe Cav and Wiggo are back on the streets of Surrey so soon after I saw them in the Olympics! Got to travel a bit this time though as it's the other side of the county - out in the countryside.

I think Mr Cav needs to run a sprinting master class

As I said earlier, I think it was more weak teams than anything else. Usually it would be the responsibility of his team mates to chase down that kind of break on a not-especially tough stage.

Underway on ES

They must be going pretty slow today or they started late 'cos there's still 85K to go..................last few days we've only had the last 30-odd K

Two man break up the road, about 5 minutes

rolling stage, similar to yesterday.............could be a bunch sprint but the last bit is uphill, not drastically but might not suit some of the sprinters

Underway on ES...........last chance for anyone to have a go at Contador today

Tough stage with 3 cat 1 and a cat 2 climbs and a big mountain top finish

Simon Clarke has got in the break and taken the first few climbs to guarantee enough points to win the Mountain Classification - well done to him, particularly as he hasn't really featured on any of the big mountain top stage finishes........he's accumulated points by getting out in breaks and taking the climbs before the breakaway is caught. Almost impossible to do that in the Tour where the points are heavily skewed towards the Hors Categorie and Mountain Top Finishes.

Just now the breakaway has over 8 minutes and it's chucking down which will make a tough stage even worse for the poor sods who are at the end of their tether...............

Not the fireworks expected. The GC contenders battle kicked off too late to change positions. It looked like Contador cracked chasing Rodriguez so earlier pressure could have been decisive provided, of course, Purito had the legs after a gruelling mountainous tour.

Less than 4mins separating 4th and 9th on the all-but final GC.

Tomorrow live: ToB 1:45pm; Vuelta 3:45pm; and Montreal GP 7:45pm.

Real shame, but it's obviously the only answer. Where do people think he will go then?

Hi everyone ive missed this thread for the Vuelta thanks to another extremely harsh ban , 2 weeks this time !, i must be on for a record .

Not a suprise with Cav although at the end of the TDF i thought he might stay but in hindsight that was just the euphoria of such a great tour.

This move is best for all concerned as Cav can now have a whole team based around him as his talent deserves , looking like Omega Pharma Quickstep isn't it ?

Sky can now load up their TDF team 100% towards the GC.

The Vuelta has been a good watch , pity about Froome but he can take away a lot , a vital learning curve for him , can't say im happy about the top 2 ,the best rider hasn't won the race which is a bit of a shame.

welcome back, Fridge.......

I suppose Cav must have been sounding out other teams but it's not straightforward having left it so late

A lot of teams will be already set up for next year and it's not just a case of hiring Cav, you have to hire another 3 or 4 guys to build the team around him

And it doesn't seem the same now as regards lead outs..........none of the top rank sprinters seem to have lead out trains in the HTC or Cippo team moulds..........it's not as though you can just slot Cav in to a ready made lead out train............there doesn't seem to be one around

Paradoxically Sky would probably have the best lead out team........

Through this whole Cav leaving Sky thing, I'm like, what about Bernie? You can't split up the dream team, I mean Bernie is the guy that even tried to help Cav in the Road Race

Cheers

Isn't there already a fair few of Cavs old HTC team mates at OPQ ? I read something from the team manager a while back saying he'd definatly want Cav there if he was available.

Surely theres enough time to get a team together for next year isn't there ? or is there a cut off point like the transfer window in football ?

I think there must be a cut off point because riders never leave a team mid-season and go somewhere else so there must be a final date for submitting that years squad to the UCI

Don't know when it is though.............but there's obviously still time. I just think it would have been better to have started the process after the Tour.........more chance to get the people you want rather than looking round to see who's not signed up for next year

Ye makes sense , his old mate Renshaw is at Rabobank i see , i wonder if whoever signs Cav would want to get that duo back together again , complicated though like you say with contracts.

Least he has given himself time to find a new team.

Maybe finish off with Team Sky by winning a stage or two in the Tour of Britian.

Not sure if was a throw away comment based on the success of the Olympics but Cav did say he'd consider going back to track cycling for 2014.

I don't think it was - he wants that Olympic gold and the road race is out in 2016.

Isn't Tom Boonen at OPQ?

Could be useful
Liquigas seem to be the most transfer happy at the moment.
