ITV4 didn't even show the startoff? the race had already started by the time they started showing it.

Tour of britain underway on ITV4...........55K to go, breakaway got about 7 minutes but now cut back to just over a minute

Flat stage from Ipswich to Norwich via the east Anglian coast, looks like one for Cav !

As a Eurosport man it's a bit strange watching on ITV4..........I guess it's a bit strange for them as well as I assume ITV are 'host broadcaster' rather than just taking a feed from France or Spain........so it's probably a big committment from them, unless of course it's been contracted out to a TV production company, which often seems to happen with UK live broadcasting.

Jill has already messed up a bit as we've been able to hear her talking to 'production' after she thought they linked away to something else..............but what the hell, I like Jill so who cares !..............

Hugh Porter and Rob Hales doing the commentary

Maybe the regulars, Paul and Phil, are doing the canadian race for US telly ?

Can you educate me, my cycling forum friends?

I notice that the Tour of Britain is not in the UCI World Tour but in the UCI Europe Tour, a circuit with a different set of particpating teams / riders, not including Sky.

However, here is the TOB with Sky in it (and riders who are in the World Tour ranking list not the Europe one).

Can anyone explain how this all works?

That's normal, each stage is going to be about 4 hours, it's rare for anyone to show the whole thing.

It's very rare that you'll ever see the whole of a days race live on TV..............Eurosport usually show about 3 days of the Tour de France the whole way but that's about it

We haven't had any full days in the Vuelta

According to his Twitter feed, Paul's back home in Africa at the moment and AFAIK they always do commentary on location. They did the recent ProChallenge/Tour of Colorado but not the Vuelta which overlapped by one week.

Hugh Porter just mentioned Phil Gil winning a couple of stages in the Vuelta and being in the best form he's seen him in for a couple of years.

Obviously didn't watch him last season, then.

Division 1 teams like Sky MUST participate in all Division 1 races, but they can pick and choose which Division 2 races they want to do. Division 2 teams can only participate in Division 1 races if they are invited by the race organisers. Division 3 teams normally don't race outside their home country.

Yes, basically the teams are arranged in Divisions

The top division are World Tour teams like Sky. They are obliged to put a team into every World Tour race, and generally each World Tour race will also invite 3 or 4 lower rank teams to take part, usually from their own country

For races which are below World Tour level the organisers wil invite world tour teams but they are not obliged to turn up. Generally half a dozen world tour teams might take part, then the organiers will invite teams from the nest level down and domestic teams which are even further down

The next level down from World Tour is 'Pro Continental' and i don't think the UK has any Pro-Continental teams, so the British terams taking part will be from lower down the pecking, in soccer terms, division 3 and below

I think ITV4 had one of the big mountain Tour stages in full this year but as you say it is extremely unusual.

There have been some comments about the forming of the breakaway being the most interesting parts of some stages but as this usually involves complicated inter-team tactics it might not make much sense to casual viewers.

I read something in the week about Enduro Racing who are probably the best domestic british team...........apparently they are going to merge with another team, NetApp, who rode the Giro this year.............and they hope the combined team might get up into the Pro Continental division

I think that was the gist of what i read

Back in the day I used to cycle around East Anglia and I can tell you that there are more hills than you think.

About the same chance as Britain investing in a couple of decently maintained roads

All the guys in the crash will get the same time as the winner, because it was inside the last 2k.

Drama.................

Will the guys in the crash get the same time as the winner under the 3K rule ?

Luke Rowe wins for Sky............

I don't know wether he's just unlucky but Cav does seem to fall off an awful lot................much more than any other top sprinter
