Using Calibre to Convert to TXT format
Anyone done it ? I'd like to ideally find out the best settings for conversion.
I actually got one of these in the end .. cheap and cheerful I know!. Obviously going to need to convert whatever I find to TXT format but i've had a play around already and while it's generally fine for the large part, there are still some glitches - it seems like the apostrophe is replaced with an empty box symbol. |

Don't be so cheap. Kindles aren't that expensive.

playing with the settings for a bit myself as well ..
so far, the following settings produce something that's pretty much spot on. just really posting this in case anyone else might find it useful .. Look&Feel: Input Character Encoding : Ascii Remove spacing between paragraphs Insert blank line between paragraphs UnSmarten Punctuation TXT Output: Output Encoding : Ascii Formatting: Plain Leave everything else alone. Tested about a dozen conversions from MOBI to TXT and the formatting is pretty much bang on - the only glitch that I can't quite figure out is that there appears to be an extra space after an apostrophe. Obviously removing spacing between paragraphs may well bunch up each chapter and it may well be like reading one massive text file (which it essentially is anyway) but the ones i've tried so far have all been fine - some of them even manage to seperate out each chapter with some line breaks anyway. |
