I don't think the celebs are aimed at a youth market particularly. Of the soap actors, only the one from Hollyoaks is likely to be known to under twenty-fives more than the older age group. The woman who was in Dallas is mainly known to an older age-group, and I'd say that someone like Rosemary Conley is likely to be best known by women over 30.
Heidi is in the Sugababes, and they've been around for years. Loads of people over 25 have heard of them, and buy their records. Sam and Mark present kids tv these days, but they were on the second series of Pop Idol, which is watched by a similar demographic to Dancing on Ice, and the same can be said for Chico. He was replacing Chesney Hawkes, and he's probably only really known to the over 30s.
Chemmy is a sportswoman, so whether or not you know her depends on whether or not you follow Winter sports, but she's the top British woman in her field, so you'd have to be very cynical not to accept that's a claim to fame. Free-running is not that new, and I'd expect most people under 40 and many who are older to know about it, and a lot more will have seen him in Casino Royale.
The only person this year who is truly aimed at the young audience is the Blue Peter presenter, and I don't have a problem with not having heard of him before now.
My usual gripe is that the show is soap heavy, and I would't have known all of the soap actors before now, but that doesn't mean they aren't famous. I've heard of the shows they do, and know that they are watched, and recognised by millions.
There aren't any of the tabloid-only type stars that have been taking over a lot of reality tv lately, and infiltrated the show last year, but that's no bad thing. I like that this year's line-up seem to be capable of careers that don't centre around the vacuous side of celebrity.
