True, but these aren't even 'B' grade or 'C' grade celebs, more like 'z's

Not everyone will - it depends how big on pop culture you are. I've heard of more people than I had in the previous series! And was there really any need to start a new topic just for this?

I really don't mind how famous or not the celebs are; I'm just grateful that anyone at all wants to take part for my entertainment!

That's actually a really good way of looking at it. It's ice skating on TV - of course it will be brilliant!

Yes. Because it bills itself as a show in mainstream entertainment that features 'celebrities' learing to ice skate. Mostly, unless you are below 25, you will not know more thatn 2/3 of these so-called celebrities. This is meant to be a prime time entertainment show so focusing almost solely on the youth market is not acceptable.

Why are all the celeb women blonde?. Just an observation.

I don't know the majority of the celebrities, but I don't care as for me it's not about who they are but watching their progress, seeing the pro routines and of course Torville & Dean.
I would still watch if it was memebers of the public taking part a la Big Brother.

I don't think the celebs are aimed at a youth market particularly. Of the soap actors, only the one from Hollyoaks is likely to be known to under twenty-fives more than the older age group. The woman who was in Dallas is mainly known to an older age-group, and I'd say that someone like Rosemary Conley is likely to be best known by women over 30.

Heidi is in the Sugababes, and they've been around for years. Loads of people over 25 have heard of them, and buy their records. Sam and Mark present kids tv these days, but they were on the second series of Pop Idol, which is watched by a similar demographic to Dancing on Ice, and the same can be said for Chico. He was replacing Chesney Hawkes, and he's probably only really known to the over 30s.

Chemmy is a sportswoman, so whether or not you know her depends on whether or not you follow Winter sports, but she's the top British woman in her field, so you'd have to be very cynical not to accept that's a claim to fame. Free-running is not that new, and I'd expect most people under 40 and many who are older to know about it, and a lot more will have seen him in Casino Royale.

The only person this year who is truly aimed at the young audience is the Blue Peter presenter, and I don't have a problem with not having heard of him before now.

My usual gripe is that the show is soap heavy, and I would't have known all of the soap actors before now, but that doesn't mean they aren't famous. I've heard of the shows they do, and know that they are watched, and recognised by millions.

There aren't any of the tabloid-only type stars that have been taking over a lot of reality tv lately, and infiltrated the show last year, but that's no bad thing. I like that this year's line-up seem to be capable of careers that don't centre around the vacuous side of celebrity.

Totally agree with this bit - having seen the desparate Celeb Big brother line up i have to say the DOI line up is positively starry by comparison. Playboy bunnies, WAGs, someone from TOWIE (was convinced given the ITV link we'd get someone from there on DOI so relieved it's not the case) and worst of all a girl who is 'famous' for shagging her brother in law.

The only person I'd swap from CBB for Dancing On Ice would be Gareth Thomas.

Didn't need the topic, as these people are celebrities, and it's not focusing on the youth market. What rubbish!

Its inevitable you will get soap stars when there's very little TV drama being made now and the soaps have a high turnover. You won't get stage actors because they will either be unknown or too well known and successful. We are now nearly through the recognisable people from the major girl and boy bands from around 2000, and most later and earlier singers are still either working or forgotten.DOI also has its contestant pool limited by age, fitness and risk taking potential much more than any other reality show. No one over 35 (apart from Bonnie) is likely to be very successful, and many celebs can't afford to, or don't want to, risk damaged joints and bones.

The only real areas left to explore are sportsmen who might be used more , some more of the better dancers from the 2000 generation of pop stars and the successful people from SCD particularly - who might do very well but so far have been ruled out . Frankly though there haven't been many memorable sports people in recent years and most of them are more of an age to do SCD or still playing their sport.

The thing going for DOI is that its successful people do seem to get real career boosts from doing the show - but SCD and IAC are less risky and almost as good at helping a career along.

If anything, I thought they had done well to get 4 potentially capable females under 30 as well as a couple of much older candidates who are unlikely to overstay, but may be interesting. The male list seems to have lost Chesney and Chegwin who may have both been targetted to attract sections of the audience, and its not obviously as strong , but lets see what we get there. In many ways the only bad cast would be one with another clear runaway winner.

I'd genuinely be a bit embarrassed to comment on a media/showbiz forum like this to say I haven't heard of most of this cast.

It's very trendy to belittle reality show casts, but I've watched every series of DOI, and this cast surpasses the lot - and any show on tv would have to be pleased if it was their's.

If you don't know anyone from the current soaps, from amusing popular culture, from classic 80's tv or film, or from sport, then frankly don't waste your time. Who did you expect on the show?!

Absolutely. Strangely, I'm not embarrassed at all that I am not up to date with every soap and reality 'star.' I still think that this line-up is dull but perhaps I have higher expectations from not watching soap and reality all the time.

To those still whining about the line up come up with a list of a names who you think should be on instead (and I'm talking a realistic list here not Brad & Angelina or David Beckham).

Discussing not whining!

And no, I can't come up with anybody at all which is probably why I do the job I do and expect people called Celebrity Bookers working in television to do theirs. I think it's me that's out of step as most people seem happy with the Z-list!

You're not happy with the line up yet can't come up with any alternative. Seems you don't really know what you want so perhaps the 'discussion' should end.

What people have to remember is that the celebs that they think should be taking part either aren't in need of the coverage appearing on the show brings them, or may not be in a position to appear because the show they work for doesn't want them injured etc .

Bigger named celebs themselves might also not want to take the risks involved in case it jepordises their current work. Just looking at all the injuries this year alone proves that.

I personally don't think that the line up is that horrific this year. There are a couple that I think are questionable Laila for example but certainly have heard of most of them and while it is a bit soap heavy it is not always possible to get a broad spectrum of celebs to compete.

I look at it this way things could have been a lot worse it could have been all TOWIE people or BB contestants or X Factor rejects like Frankie whatever going into CBB (how is he even a celeb) Oops sorry off topic rant over

I'll reserve proper judgement until Sunday when I have seen how they perform on the ice.
