Bin bags

Hi, my cat goes daft over plastic bags (supermarket ones) and especially black bags. He licks them to death and sometimes biting them too. Anyone any idea why? I always make sure he doesn't eat/swallow them. It obviously gives him real pleasure by the sounds of the purring. Have never had this with any of my other cats. Is it strange?

Mine loves sitting on them, but no licking involved. I think for mine, it is the sound. If we are playing a game, she loves pouncing on a carrier bag if there is a mouse underneath. Another thing mine does is wee on them. She has always been an indoor/outdoor cat and has a very clean litter tray (which I have moved slowly around the house to find somewhere she will use it, but to no avail). She will always go outside for her toiletting, but on odd occasions when she is desperate to go and there is another cat in the garden, she finds a plastic bag (or any shopping bag) to go on. I don't mind as at least it isn't the carpet or furniture.

Simba does the same - we just thought he had a fetish!

I means, he lurves plastic bags. When I do shopping, he always tries to climb in the bags, if I have bags tucked away, he paws them out. And the white bin liners, he just sits there and licks them.

Archie likes plastic bags too. And he loves chewing plastic - and swallowing it if I am not quick enough to get it away from him.

Just be careful with the carrier bags though, my sister's cat also liked bags and was playing with one when he got his head stuck in the handle, freaked out, ran through the cat flap and was charging round the garden with a bag round his neck - thankfully her husband rescued him.

Ah so he is not strange then? Thanks for that. Wasn't too sure whether to be worried or just amused.

I have two brothers, one has always had a 'thing' about licking and chewing plastic bags of all types. The first thing he does every morning when he comes in through the bathroom window is go to my bag of loo rolls, sit with his ears flat, eyes closed, and licks and chews the plastic for a short while. Sometimes he comes into the bedroom during the night and I waken to hear him noisily licking a stray plastic bag he has found.

I have no idea why he does it. His littler brother has never shown any interest in plastic bags, but he prefers sucking on my fur throw or fluffy bathrobe (is washed often lol).

My boy cat loves to lick any kind of plastic, he doesn't eat it but looks ecstatic when doing it
