Weird patterns in your music taste/the charts?

For me, I don't like JLS but it seems that I always like the 3rd single they release from their albums (One Shot, Eyed Wide Shut and now Do You Feel What I Feel?) and detest the second (Everybody In Love, Love You More, Take a Chance On Me)

Also, with The Saturdays I like the second song they release from an album (Up, Ego, Higher, All Fired Up). Chart wise they always seem to peak high then drop quickly with an average song (Forever Is Over, Missing You, Just Can't Get Enougj) then peak lower but have a great chart run with a brilliant song (Up, Ego and Higher)

Chart wise, Pixie Lott always seems to go to #1 but has never had a single peak between 2 and 9 up until What Do You Take Me For? got to #10 in December her 3 top 10's had all been number 1's

What other weird patterns in your music taste/chart performances have you noticed

It funny you should mention this. The other day I was thinking about why Rihanna always seems to have fantastic 1st singles but always follows them up with a crap 2nd (If It's Loving, Shut Up & Drive, Rude Boy, What's My Name, You Da One) I was disappointed with all of them. Unfaithful is the only one I love.

I'm the opposite. I usually prefer Rihanna's 2nd singles, with the exceptionf of Pon De Replay and Umbrella. Too many of her lead singles (e.g. SOS, Only Girl, We Found Love) are generic and sound the same to me.

I agree! "Shut up and Drive" is one of my favs!

I always find there is an occasional song, a particular key change or something that gets me hooked. There was a JLS some I liked, for that reason, just as there was one Atomic Kitten song I liked and similar with Girls Aloud and The Sugarbabes. (Not One Direction tho!)

I like EVERYTHING The Wanted have done so far!

My favourites either get kept off by another fave or by an act I absolutely hate, never by someone I like or am impartial to.

The underwhelming/weakest performing single of an era always tends to be my favourite.

You and I - Lady GaGa
Every Teardrop Is A Waterall - Coldplay
What the Water Gave Me - Florence and the Machine
Love Is A Losing Game - Amy Winehouse

A few examples. I'm not sure why it is. Maybe I have some sort of aversion to songs that are really "mainstream"... but I'm not some kind of hipster.

I agree with this, and I'm not a JLS fan either. They always release a horribly cheesy, cliched "club banger" for the 1st single, and a horribly cheesy, cliched mushy ballad for the 2nd single. But the 3rd single is always actually quite decent.

I also never liked Kylie's lead singles from her albums since 2000 (bar CGYOOMH) but really liked the second release (On a Night Like This, In Your Eyes, Red Blooded Woman, Wow & Get Outta My Way)

I always seem to like X Factor boyband's first singles (I liked One Shot, hated pretty much everything else JLS released, liked What Makes You Beatiful, not keen on 1D's second single)

It's something like this for me. I absolutely loved "Quicksand," by La Roux, and was shocked to find it's chart position below 100. Also, Ellie Goulding's, "Under The Sheets," & "Lights," tend to be my two favourite songs from her album, but they both charted badly as well. To add to this, Jennifer Lopez and, "Papi," as well as Diana Vickers and, "The Boy Who Murdered Love," both didn't chart well, despite being songs I'd say are the best from their respective albums.

I concur, quicksand was brill as was (my fave here) - i'm not your toy, peaked at 27!?!?! Seriously, that is a tune!! Their debut deserved to go 2X platinum, shame they didnt release more singles in the USA.

That also reminded me about, "In For The Kill," not doing well in America, compared with, "Bulletproof." I wanted two top tens, like in the UK - that would surely make people notice La Roux. I barely ever heard a mention about, "Bulletproof," going top 10 in America, but heard much more about Jessie J's, "Price Tag," reaching #23 instead, in comparison. Anyways, new album this year! Amidst the Shut Up & Drive comments above, I like it, and more than any other Rihanna songs apart from S&M.

My possible top 4 songs of 2011 were the 2nd singles from their albums ie AKA What a Life, Don't Hold Your Breath, Paradise and What Do You Take Me For?. Not to be outdone, my potential next 3 fave songs were 3rd singles ie Set Fire to the Rain, My Heart Takes Over and Right There. No sarcasm intended, but while S&M was another of my top 10, I have no idea whether it was the 1st, 2nd, 3rd or even 12th single from her album.

I always loove duets more than the solo version (if there is) and my favourite never chart very well
