Having my proper first listen through now. As predicted I see she removed the speaking from the beginning of Blue Jeans

The variety issue was obviously a very deliberate choice once you hear the demos of National Anthem and This Is What... with their more poppy, upbeat sound.

The only thing I can't understand is how they had the perfect song in the demo version of Diet Mtn Dew, and then put what sounds like a weird, speeded up remix version on the album

I'm loving Lolita, National Anthem, Without You and Dark Paradise the most but I like all of the tracks

Very interesting article with the founder of Lana's old record label.

Excerpt :

Quote:
“When did you all sign her?

It was 2007. She was a senior in college and had one more year to go. Our plan was to get it all organized and have a record to go and she’d be touring right after she graduated from college. Like a lot of artists, she morphed. When she first came to us, she was playing plunky little acoustic guitar, [had] sort of straight blonde hair, very cute young woman. A little bit dark, but very intelligent. We heard that. But she very quickly kept evolving. There’s a lot of misinformation that I’ve read that’s dead wrong.

Oh yeah?

Oh yeah. It’s a little bit of a lesson for me. Nobody even fact-checked. For example, her father never had anything to do financially with supporting her creativity. I don’t know if he was lending her money to live off of, but at least when she was with us, not a penny. I don’t know if he’s rich or not; I met him and he seemed like a pretty ordinary guy. But that whole thing that she was backed by her millionaire dad is a bunch of crap, basically. Certain facts about the record she did with us are completely misshapen.”

Currently #1 and #2 on US iTunes. And just gone #1 on Mexico iTunes, bizarrely. That's 17 countries she's currently #1 in. Currently can't get enough of million Dollar Man

So happy she's #1 in the midweeks and out-selling the rest of the top 10! Haters have nothing

Album arrives
Glad she is selling well
I was a bit skeptical how well her album could do but I am glad she is doing so well

I predict a third single may be announced soon.

Yeah I love the vibe of the album...will relisten to it later and really grasp the songs....it is beautiful, very powerful definitely....it puts a lot into perspective for Pop today...the idea of "whats hot and whats not"....its just beautiful being absurd and cool

But i am very impressed

For National Anthem I could imagine an American Pie/Life type video after all the metaphors are patriotic

YES! Something absurdly patriotic and tongue in cheek would definitely work!

My idea for Off to the races is she is chasing some guy down on a horse in a race of course. The video makes you think she is chasing down the guy to confess her love and be his girl, or that she just wants to beat him to give it the girl power element.

Yeah I see what you mean there I just shame some of the songs are so similar it kind of takes away the uniqueness of them when some sound so similar.

I think they played it safe a little knowing that a more upbeat sound might no go over as well kind of a shame really.

I think I must have played 'Radio' 8264984 times!

If Radio, Off To The Races or National Anthem are released as a single I shall be happy

Adore her album. I hope when she tours she does smaller venues (like a Later with Jools Holland setup with relaxed tables and chairs.. she'd be divine in that type of atmosphere and I would pay 2/3x the price of an average ticket to see that!

50k sales for Monday alone in the UK! I said To myself I'd be happy with first week sales of around 80k so looks like she is definitely on course for that

Shes made quite a start as we can see, but I have not heard once ever on the radio, especially capital.

If I asked my friends who she is, they wouldn't know.
