With regards to Capital Radio and their ilk, I was reading a very interesting post on Haven Forums today regarding that. Absolutely no idea if this is true btw but worth a read

Quote:
“But I guess unless you are a reader of The Word magazine, you would not be aware of a lot of the back story of Lana Del Rey, and more importantly why right now there is a PR campaign led by the UK entertainment media giant Global, who control most of the major commercial radio stations; as well as a growing number of music acts (The Wanted, Cover Drive, etc) whom immediately get added to those stations playlists; which is part of the Lagardère SCA global business media conglomeration which also contains the Hearst Magazines UK umbrella which owns several magazines and very popular internet sites such as ELLE, Cosmopolitan, Men’s Health, Esquire, Good Housekeeping and D******S**.

As Lana's father (as a website domain businessmen) has allegedly had business altercations with one of the owners of this media franchise bloc that makes Simon Cowell look like a rank amateur; and with Richard Park (former BBC1s Fame Academy head judge) as Group Executive Director and Director of Broadcasting of said music stations (Heart, Capital, Gold, Choice, Classic, LBC, XFM) whom famously got on with FA1 winner David Sneddon in a manner that made Steve Brookstein and Simon Cowell look like best friends), then Lana Del Rey was always going to be a marmite cause, as certain music industry people are more willing for her to succeed or fail than any other music act in 2012.”

Edit: B*gger DS don't like that link. It's on Haven Forums under Divas - Lana Del Rey if you want to see the original post.

Scroll down a bit and there are some recent live performances she did in France that she did for the album. She performed the two singles and Off to the races.

I really do love her live performances, it does bring me back a lot to The Velvet Underground & Nico late 60s vibe in music, where live performances were kinda spontaneous, dark, awckward beauty behind it.

Lana gets a lot of flack because of all the gagas, Perrys, Ke$has and Adeles who manage to perform based on their own "gimmick" (i say Adele because hers is the fact she is gimmick-less if that makes sense) I mean they have that general massive modern Pop feel about them that makes Lana stand out....she isnt with them, she is a whole different Pop Starlet....And i freakin love it!

She sold 42k in Germany on the first day and also went Gold in Poland on day one (sales of 10k). Her worldwide figures are going to shock some folk. Even SNL hasn't totally spoiled it for her in the US - predicted to sell 55-70k and be #2 on the BB20 behind, well, do i need to even say?

My current obsession is Lucky Ones.....

PS Lana comforting a crying fan in Paris. Such a sweet person. Oh, and check out the size of her bodyguard

Just watched her performance on David Letterman. That's pretty much how I remember her from a very tiny club in LA a few weeks ago. Way better than SNL. Plus David was digging her!

You can always tell when David loves a performance/performer - he puts his legendary sarcasm to one side for a while. Did it with Adele and he did it with Lana. I'm so pleased for her. I do sometimes think she may be just too nice for this business, though.

Lana Del Ray talks with fans outside Letterman show

The end is funny, you hear a woman ask: who is that? And a bloke says 'it's Lana Del Rey' and the woman responds' 'Who?' Still some way to go in the US before she's a household name

Whoa, whoa! Hold up there Konebyvax! This is the same girl who says **** Off on a public tweet. Who kicks taxis. I think there is more to this chick than you, or anybody else, knows.
She'll make her way.

Lol. Like most people she seems less shy online.

I hope fame doesn't spoil her when it comes to fan interaction. From that meeting fans video:

I agree, you can apply as many times as you wish on as many email accounts as possible and you're still more or less unlucky

"Be careful cause I'm gonna sign everything, so be careful". Some fans are so stupid....

Really hoping the beautifully talented Lana Del Rey is #1 tomorrow

The album had sold 92,000 copies by close of play Thursday so I don't think her being #1 is much of a stretch

Lovely.

When she sings on that video, she sounds amazing. So vintage, so oldfashioned and so very 40s/50's. I think she would be amazing doing Acoustic or just stripped down versions of her songs.

She's got her #1 album that's for sure! It'll be interesting to see if Born to Die edges into the top 10 it was set to on Friday
konebyvax

Yes, it would be great if her first 2 singles could be top 10 (gonna be close this week though). She's by no means a singles artist, though, in my opinion, so that would be a great result. Her album could be as much as 70k ahead of the #2 album!

Where the album and her singles have ended up on the charts this week. Put in a spoiler as I know they may not have been officially announced on Radio 1 yet.

Spoiler
UK Charts

1 (NEW). Born To Die

9 (14). Born To Die
17 (20). Video Games

Ah great news Born to Die went top 10 and of course the album
BadKid95
05-02-2012
And so the album did out sell the top 5 combined, she could get a second week at #1, no real competition

Haven't posted on this thread before (mostly because I haven't been on DS for months) but I just wanted to say how much I LOVE Lana Del Rey!

Born To Die is such an AMAZING album!
