Strictly seem to be quite big Lana fans don't they? I heard them playing Carmen a few weeks ago too.

There's been a few fave unreleased selections, but that's a pretty cool "mixtape" of tracks regardless of that, I like it. Will just repeat that it would be great if she officially releases them.

Also don't know if anyone else has noticed this, but Lana's unreleased back catalogue seem to have gone down quite well with the DJ community, lot of remixes out there done to er shall we say varying degrees of quality. Guess Cedrix Gervais and Summertime Sadness have opened up the doors for that. Such as this mash up of 100 Dollar Bills with Jay Z:
http://stupiddope.com/2013/09/20/jay...mix-new-music/

I'll always be more a fan of the Lana originals, but I do like how the DJ culture is getting Lana's material out there to maybe some people who wouldn't normally listen to it. You sometimes see fans of dance or hip hop on music forums say things like "I wouldn't normally really listen to her style of music but my god her voice is AMAZING."

Nasty bit of skulduggery. Somebody has tried to sabotage Lana's chances of winning an Oscar for Young and Beautiful by sending a fake "official" letter to Oscar voters saying itís not eligible. Thankfully Lana's record company and the movie biz seem to have intervened and put things right. Phew!
http://www.deadline.com/2013/12/grea...and-beautiful/

But who could do such a thing? Could Lady Gaga have been sat up all night cackling evilly as she wrote the letters mumbling "I'll get you for that diss track you wrote about me b*tch...and I'll teach you for outdoing ME in the video stakes with Tropico...oh yes... I'll get you...I willÖ"

Or is it Lorde? Still jealous that Lana has "Tigers on a gold chain" and "Cadillacís in her dreams," has she become even more p*ssed off that Lana's now got Elvis, Marilyn, Jesus and John Wayne? Hell it could well even have been the Unicorn that tipped her over the edge. "Why didn't Niel Finn get me one of those for my 12th birthday instead of a stupid record contract!"

Possibly foaming at the mouth, cursing how she isn't "Queen Bee" and realising she's ran out of 3rd rate music magazines to mouth off in about Lana's lyrics being "irrelevant" to her, Lorde could now have snapped and played a trick her 16 year old school mates would be ashamed of.

Whoever did it, I hope they end up with serious egg on their faces and Lana wins that Oscar. Go on Lana!

OK I think post Tropico everybody might be Lana loaded by now and be recovering in anticipation of release of Ultra Violence but will just say:

Was looking at what made it for the Oscar Nominations and Lana didn't make the final list. Bummer. Hope whoever played the prank of sending out the fake letter claiming she's not eligible didn't have an effect on that.

Then again I look at it like this. Most current young & hip musical artists that win Oscars quickly stop being viewed as current young and hip. Case of point look at the amount of people on these boards that unkindly say Adele is this generations Phil Collins now. So, although it would have been a nice thing to win, I think she's probably better off without one. Well for now at least .

But yeah I think she could do without been branded something like "this generations Celine Dion" and then subsequently have the record company try and repackage her as some kind of bland MOR which is not what she's about at all, no no no. Plus Americans would only become even more paranoid that her rich dad rigged it or that she's a member of the "Illuminati" or whatever.

And on another note I've seen the press trying to stir up a bit of controversy over her and Lorde being on the same bill at America's Coachella despite the "feud" between the pair.

But c'mon what feud? 1) I don't think Lana gives a sh*t what Lorde thinks of her. She's certainly never responded and 2) I don't even think Lorde dislikes Lana that much really bar a few ill judged remarks in some interviews. Lorde's just like female Jake Bugg, she mouths off a lot but her hearts in the right place really, she's not a bad kid.

We will see most likely at the Grammys how the body language is between them.

I found last night that Lana's music sounds so good when driving at night. I was listening to Summertime Sadness (album version) on the way home from the radio station. I'm very much looking forward to "Ultra Violence"

Lorde has said she is a big fan of Lana and Born to Die did have an influence on Pure Heroine. However, I think Lorde only felt that young kids shouldn't be played Lana's music, which I agree with

You know that may not be a coincidence Mimicole. I remember Lana mentioned in one of the radio interviews that she writes a lot of the songs late at night time driving around in her car through the streets of LA. Sings them into a recorder she's got on the seat next to her. She also let slip she likes to drive really fast whilst doing this and the DJ made a quip along the lines of "So if you see anyone speeding in the LA area tonight, that's Lana Del Rey." Sounds about right!

I think Lorde will win at the Grammys. Lana will probably get snubbed (again) BUT will win awards for Ultraviolence at the next one. I'm not expecting any fireworks between Lorde and Lana but I'm not expecting them to take to the stage and kiss like Madonna and Britney once did either. I'm sure that wont stop the press trying to put a spin on anything they can though.

I could see Lana writing her songs at night after a car ride. I definitely plan to listen to her album on the way to and from the radio station this evening.

Do we have any news on the new album? A single release? A release date for the album?

Well totally out of the blue: She's singing on yet another movie soundtrack, this time its Disney's Maleficent, which I believe is sort of live action prequel to their classic animated version of Sleeping Beauty. The twist is its the story of the Dark Queen from the original and they've got Angelina Jolie to play her. She's seems to be on quite literally wicked form from trailers shown so far.

Lana is singing one of the songs from the original but it would appear they've picked her because she can put a darker spin on the tune. Well who else! Apparently it will be released as a single immediately after the Grammys.

Anyway there's a board about it here on digital spy here with the link to the news item all about it:

Very, very nice find indeed Veri! Brill! And I still can't get enough of her version of Once Upon a Dream.

Lana has tweeted to fans the new album is "absolutely gorgeous-darker than the first." "It's beautiful" "And don't worry you will love Ultra - it's so wrong and exquisite."

Now there's supposedly a release date. She said May 1st, though it is yet to be confirmed. I hope Black Beauty is on there.

I'm intrigued by Ultraviolence, it will either be a total deptarue and utterly experimental in it's approach like Alanis coming off the back of JLP. Or she will play safe and follow in the steps of her previous works.

For me I always admire and artist truly stepping forward without concern for commercial response. So it is going to be interesting to see .

she is so inspirational .... for me... she is the most exciting singer songwriting of the last 5 years......her unreleased tracks - there are so many and they are so diverse.... her record company execs and associate producers and songwriter were right...she has a vault of songs ...........

I have listened to lots and I have an album of my faves that I now class as an album in their own right - they are that good! So her next album..... I am sure will be dark and diverse! He last few tracks have been very dark and orchestral .....so I think that this may be the direction....

I still can't believe the misunderstanding of her talent

I kind of like, that rather than oppose her, her label seemingly supports her. It's truly refreshing to have a mainstream artist be allowed the freedom to evolve, and for the most part it's worked. she has grown organically without over saturation and managed to pike interest further along the way without to much hyperbole or shock tactics. She is the American Adele in so many respects (apart from the music ).

Has Lana collaborated with Giorgio Moroder on one of the tracks on Ultraviolence? He really can't say either way according to the interview with him on here:

Well, he's pictured here not only with Lana but also her manager so if i was a betting man..http://teamlanadelrey.tumblr.com/image/76648043386. Other rumours circulating are that one of the blokes out of The Black Keys has also been involved on the album in some way. Genuinely can't wait to hear this album.

PS Her 3 dates in the US sold out in 5 minutes.

Brilliant, nice one Makson! She got a great reception in Ireland on the Paradise tour didn't she. I remember you saying about her getting moved to tears of joy when the crowd cheered her speech about how much the support of the fans means to her, so I bet she can't wait to see you all again. And I still think it was you who chucked your undergarments onstage .

So it would seem as well as those (5 minute sell out-whoa! whoever said she wasn't popular there!) concerts in the US she's hitting the worlds music festival circuit again. Pure wild total speculation on my part, but I am wondering if she might think it is the perfect time to play that little festival they call Glastonbury. We shall see.

And to think some people claim she isn't popular in her homeland. Original price $35 per ticket. This is a 5,000 capacity arena.

Ruddy hell! Although it does pain me a bit when people buy tickets only to sell them at gratuitously inflated prices it is amazing to see how high they can go. Suspect the skies the limit with these shows!

Dunno if I should mention this one...strikes me as more media fanning the Lana vs. Lorde handbags at dawn flames...and I do stress I like Lorde now...but if this this is true it did make my dark side chuckle: Naughty Lana favouriting a Lorde hate tweet!
http://www.gigwise.com/news/88597/la...aimed-at-lorde

I think Lana has got a wonderfully dark sense of humour and surely meant no harm. Just as I'm sure Lorde doesn't mean anything bad with all the stupid comments she made about Lana... I'm still wincing at when she called Lana, Drake and Nicky Minaj "irrelevant." Then apologised claiming she was misquoted...but only to Drake and Nicky...surely just a typo or another misquote that Lana wasn't part of the apology...surely?
