Name me better? Can't beat her. She's superb in my opinion and I'm a guy that listens to Britpop and MOD music infused with a bit of a Metallica. I just cant get enough of her and I'm talking every album she has done. P.S I dont even fancy her that much, though I do realise she is a SEX SYMBOL.

i really like rihanna, got all the albums. however, and i never thought i would say this about her, but she`s slacking a bit. last year she had 2 #1s singles off the loud album by now and `you da one` is not even in the top 10 yet. personally, i think she should have performed the song on x factor last year, to give it some exposure.

Hopefully Rihanna has a bit of credibility musically not to sell her self short on X Factor. One of the worst programmes of all time. If she's been on it I'll still like her but hopefully she hasn't.

she has of course. its called promotion in a declining market. whats wrong with directly targeting your audience?? nothing. its the world of business.

she is quite the phenomenon! and i love it. I hope she drags this album out, goes on a break for a year or so and then comes back with (musically) a mix of all her albums, but with superior lyrical and musical themes. I want to see the real rihanna (more of rated r) and more direct co writes ie her with just one other songwriter. i want her skills to develop.

Rihanna is my favourite pop artist. I didn't like her from the beginning, but once Unfaithful came out, I did.

Although I wouldn't say she was the best pop star of the 00's, simply because she was only around for the last half of it. I think that title probably belongs to one of those that were present through the whole of the decade, so probably Madonna, Christina Aguilera or Britney Spears.

Britney Spears easily between 1999-2005 dominated the pop charts and continued to have a successful career after and has inspired everyone from lady gaga to Lana Del Rey

i think Rihanna has come from nowhere, she had two albums 'Music Of The Sun' and 'A Girl Like Me' which produced singles like 'Pon De Replay', 'SOS' and 'Unfaithful' between them, but it was the biggest selling song of the 00's 'Umbrella' which really caught everyone's attention, and since then i feel she has been the most consistent and successful artist.

However, i feel another artist through the 00's had earned themselves the title of best pop star before Rihanna was even noticed, and that is Beyonce. Although her latest album hasn't been an incredible success, she has survived the 00's better than Britney, Madonna, Kylie, Christina Aguilera and J.Lo and has been very consistent and cemented her place as a superstar.

^ Umbrella wasn't the biggest-selling song of the 00's. It was Hips Don't Lie by Shakira (who was another pop girl that was very successful during that decade, come to think of it).

Yeah I think she is probably the most consistently good artist out there. She hasn't really had a 'flop' album. Even Rated R did relatively well and had Rude Boy on it which was a hit.

Regarding Loud, What's my name was released around October time and got to number 1 in January. You da one was released last week so don't expect it peek for a few weeks yet - at least not until the hype of We found love has gone.

In fairness it's not surprising beyonce did come off the back of the worlds biggest girl group at the time

She is good but I wouldn't say she was one of the best. She's had some good songs though and I don't think her albums have flopped. I downloaded We Found Love the other day

What's My Name? was put on iTunes in October, but its release date was originally January. They brought forward the release date to December though, because What's My Name? took off so early.

For the whole decade i dont think so...i mean she only came into public eye in 2005...and reached her first peak in 2007 and kept on giving.

I think Britney 1999 - 2007 was/is the lead Popstar and then it was swap hands kinda....but not because Ms Spears has "gone downhill" i love her to death! But RIhanna has filled a void for a commercial Popstar in an unconventional way an has had three absolute massive albums! and 4 very commercially successful records too

I feel in Pop today Rihanna and gaga are leading the roost definitely! And i hope that RIhanna doesnt burn out at all really because she has that quirky blend of Madonna/grace jones and Britney really that attitude, rebellion but also commercially viable too! Its practically perfect!

I'm going to put my own opinion of Rihanna to one side, and say that yes, she's one of if not the best pop artist of 00's. Her songs have been current (at the time) and as one sound has died down and another has taken off, Rihanna has changed herself just enough to keep up to date without completely losing her roots. She's successfully managed to move with the current trends and do really well as an artist. Rihanna is considered "cool" by a lot of people, it's "cool" to like her music. I think she's the only artist really out at the moment where both boys and girls can like her and it's considered "cool".

She's changed her image a few times, and I don't like how the bigger she seems to be getting as an artist, the more clothes she takes off. But maybe the two are connected. We all know sex sells.

That's correct, and the album was released in October in the UK. The original release date of What's My Name? was in January 2011, but it had already gone in the top 10 on iTunes in October 2010, so they brought forward the release date by a month.

It's basically the same situation as with You Da One this year, except What's My Name? did a lot better in the charts. I really like You Da One, so I wish it was doing a bit better.

Sorry. I meant November then. What's My Name? charted the week the album was released in November at #18, so they brought forward its release date to the end of December instead of the end of January like it was supposed to be.

In the US, What's My Name? was released a couple of weeks before the album, and charted at #1 the week it was available for download (it charted a couple of weeks before from airplay only).

She's slacking because her current single isn't top 10? Dear God, can't please anyone these days.

Is this thread about best in the charts or best musically?
If it's down to musical ability then it's definitely not her. Although her producers and writers may have a shot at it
