Actually, she pronounces know correctly. I think it is the word 'now' that she sounds as 'noy' which is part of our Northern Ireland accent.

Some viewers do have a intolerance of heavy accents (witness the US TV managers who sacked a well known geordie from a certain talent show). I am not saying they are right, but if that attitude exists, anyone hoping to make a living of appearing on TV should take account of it.”

You've hit the nail on the head. Very few people object to accents, but they do want to be able to hear what the presenters are saying - not unreasonable! I can understand Cheryl and Christine and Alex, BUT I have to concentrate so hard that I often miss the meaning. As you said, people who want to make a career in communications need to consider the tools they will need to do do this.

I think that some people have judged her for going out with a footballer and there are also some, not many, fans of his ex out there who won't like her anyway. Speaking of his ex, wasn't she put out on the first week last year. She had a bad attitude.

Anyway, BTW, I don't think presenters matter that much on these shows. I like Tess Daly but she annoys many people however, I watch Strictly for the contestant and judges-they make the show watchable not the presenters. Poor Steve Jones was a complete disaster on X factor USA, but if the overall show is good, people will tune in.

Of course that will be those of us who don't follow football and don't understand your comment. Why should anyone be judged for going out with a footballer, (which I now assume she does).

I was just reading some of the comments on the Daily Mail about Christine's sick bug.

All of these got a thumbs up:

"Let's hope she is sick for the rest of the show"

"Here's hoping she wont return"

I don't even think folk here are that nasty.

Exactly! I have to concentrate to understand what most Welsh people are saying AND for Geordies and even some Scottish accents take a bit of deciphering, to say nothing of the sheer weirdness of various London accents ....

BUT so what? The UK is made up of 4 countries and many accents and I don't mind this in the slightest - why would I? I've got used to certain people who speak with a strong accent but there's always a new one that needs that little bit more attention. Should all presenters on national tv or radio speak with received pronunciation or one specific accent that everyone likes? That would swiftly remove at least 90% of the people there at present, not just presenters, of course, but actors, etc. In the soaps and shows watched all over the UK. We should be proud of our own regional accents and accepting of those of others, IMO.

PS Christine is looking great tonight; love the frock! But bet her critics will turn on her for that, after they're finished with her accent, that is. Such lovely people.

Why they gave her this role, one of the most high profile on tv after she ruined Daybreak, is totally beyond me.”

My sentiments exactly. For the first time since Dancing on Ice started we've turned over - for some reason I can't bear to watch while Bleakley is on. She lost us to Daybreak and we've never gone back.
I can't put my finger on it and I've never felt so strongly about anyone on tv before. Sad isn't it.

Sorry if you don't agree with MY opinion. The tone in your reply however, is far stronger than any of the language I used. You don't disgust me though

I was. Just came out of rehab and am now almost over it. Just seeing her on Dancing on Ice brought it all back Seriously though, I don't know what it is, Christine Bleakley seems a decent person, but I just can't take to her as a presenter.

Now your reply is more acceptable. I have been known to talk rubbish and I know many people like Christine Bleakley. You don't disgust me for having an alternate view to mine.

Thats OK. I can't take to Kate Garraway. Did you know that Daybreak ratings have fallen since Adrian and Christine were axed? Guess alot of people don't like Kate either

Yep, you're right. There's not much difference between GMTV and Daybreak except for sets.

I am not silly, how do you know if I can understand her or not you are not me nor do you know me. I actually thought she was calling jane jade, thats what it sounded like to me and that is just one word. We are all different and if I say I cant understand her then I mean it and it is not up to you to tell me different.

No they're actually slightly up year on year. Nobody likes a liar! Which is also why the public has turned on Christine

Take it all back. Last week I said she looked elegant. This week she looks like a hunch-backed hairy monkey with hanks of black hair hanging down and obscuring the people she is interviewing. That dress does her not favours at all, her posture is dreadful, her arms are unattractive and her hair....Sorry, but it is a glamour role and she doesn't have much else to offer. Christine - marry Frank and give up the tele.

I suggest you check the figures again. They were around the 800,000 mark before their departure in December and have been around the 700,000 mark since then. I am not a liar. Are you suggesting that I am?

I think she's doing great and looks lovely. I think her accent is fine and perfectly understandable. We don't want to go back to only hearing RP on the television. She actually worked her way up in the BBC from behind the camera floor staff and I think she deserves respect for that. I'll definitely keep watching.
