Hi all, done a search with no result, can the samsung hard drive be upgraded just like the humax foxsat?
will it take up to 1tb, and does anyone have any instructions please.
Last question may have been asked before which is best? there is only one way to find out, no not fight, ask you experts.
Thanks Brian.

As I got no reply from the experts to this, the only way to find out as I had a Humax Foxsat was to buy a Samsung, and compare, and answer it myself.
The answer in my opinion was the Samsung knocked the socks of the Humax for the following reasons.
1. control of the tv much superior
2..Guide much slicker with picture in picture also
3.graphics seem better
4. remote slightly smaller with better functions
5. deleting files much much quicker
6. Library and tools functions more superior
7. more frequent updates
8. Samsung is much cheaper
Some people go on about the blue led on the front being to bright, no way it enhances the front appearance and does not interfear with viewing.
All of this purely in my opinion, for what its worth.
Brian.
PS Humax up for grabs on Ebay.
PPS Polite replies only please as I realise you also have opinions.

What do you mean? Those Humax erotica addicted owners!!! 'there's nothing wrong with ma humax, it serves all my needs, my humax loves me" shame they don't love their customers anymore....

Where?? I'm currently torn between the Samsung and a £189 Humax from Argos...

Set up a Samsung at my brothers a few weeks back and liked it BUT I dunno if it'll work with only one feed coming in. I'm not fussed about watching one channel whilst recording another, just want to know that using one feed from the dish will give me everything...

Hi Phil
Got mine used from ebay, put 1 tb hard drive in and its been perfect, at the time the Samsungs were much cheaper than Humax (on ebay).
Answered all your other question via the private messages you sent.
Let us know which one you decide on and the reasons please.
Regards Brian.

Thanks for all your help, Brian!

I picked up the Samsung box yesterday. It's brilliant and, touch wood, no issues with it as yet!

Main thing that went against the Humax was the fact that it's now 3 years old tech - and a nightmare to get hold of up here! From what I'd read about the Samsung it is much more user friendly and faster on things like the UI and boot up. And I'm a sucker for picture in picture on the guide, lol!

Only thing I'm not sure of is that I'm guessing it's just upscaling thinks automatically as I've not found any setting for it.

Have a look at page 54 of the Samsung manual.

Menu - Settings - Picture - Screen Resolution - this then gives the options Auto, Use TV's feature, 576p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p 50Hz.

Would this be the upscaler?

Didn't think so. Thought that was just saying what resolution you wanted the box to output at, not necessarily upscale to...

Does anyone know if the Samsung has a hidden menu like the Humax has, and how to acces it?

I'm amazed that no one has found the sequence yet,
Once in it you will see quite a few options that Samsung are keeping under wraps for now

Found one - no use really - go to menu, system, system information and press 1234. Gives you the pin code. Tried lots of others but nothing else doing anything... anyone else know?

Bit of a useless post when you will not let others know, its supposed to be a forum where people help each other, not just post and keep it to yourself.

All of his posts are useless, check his history out.

In June he was claiming "I have just seen the beta testing for the software upgrade that will be made available soon, and I must admit it is amazing and makes the Samsung Freesat PVR the best on the market by a mile"

Then in July, "Sorry I couldn't reply earlier been in Syria sorting a feed for S?Y, As you now know the next firmware upgrade is slated for 20th September,

I have been privileged to see the beta testing of the new software and am well impressed, however still think manual timer recordings and multiple satellite use should of been made available from day one

However I am still confident that by October this will be the best freesat PVR available,

And that's even before new enhancements are added.in the Decmber update, to coincide With the Christmas period lol,

Prob said to much"

Then in August, "As Automan said a lot of the difference is in the software, I know that most of the hardware is the same, it just depends on when Samsung want to utilise these features on the s7800,

This unit is already 3d ready, but all the enhancements this will bring won't be realised until Samsung switch them on,

I know I am boring some people now, but this is the machine for the future and is only at th start of it's evolution, I should know I have seen what's in store,

Mediabodkin "

Also in August, "At the moment the only way you can archive recordings is by connecting to either a blu ray or DVD recorder, however the recording will be done in real time,

Being able to record/playback via a USB memory stick is a couple of updates away yet, one of the options you will have will be the ability to choose recording to HDD or EXT USB DRIVE as well as full archive backup etc

Don't forget you read it here first

MD"

And this month, "After all the fiasco with ITV Player, I have heard today that demand 5 could be coming to samsung's freesat box in an exclusive deal with the broadcaster,

Sorry cant give any more info at the moment"

I wonder what he comes up with for next month, or the month after, or the month after..........

Thanks Thunderquaker, we will not expect any reply on hidden menu then.
