I really enjoyed the judges comments last night, professional, to the point, and constructive. I think that at last the producers have got it right.

I thought Louie did a good job for the first week; whether people like him or not, he does know what he is talking about when it comes to dance and performance, unlike people like Emma B who I found pretty pointless as a judge.

With 2 pro/Olympian skaters and 1 performance/choreographer, I think the balance is excellent.

Shame he knows so little about self restraint. Sky+ and a 30 min delay before watching is my saviour this year.
Are you basing this on what you saw on last night's DOI? Because I didn't see anything to complain about in terms of Louie's restraint. Like some others, I wasn't sure if I would like him because all I've seen of him is OTT clips and appearances on Harry Hill's TV Burp. However, as a previous poster said, a man like Louie would not have a career that has lasted this long if he only had one persona.

From what I saw last night he totally got the premise of DOI and commented accordingly. He spoke about the dance aspects because that is his field, and yes he made a few humorous/light-hearted comments along the way, but at least they were spontaneous and not cringingly scripted like Philip Schofield's often are.

Yeah totally professional with his snigger snigger/titter titter comments where he implies he fancies some of the males which is no doubt going to happen every week just like it does with Craig and Bruno on Strictly and is equally as tiresome.
But the point is Louie hasn't done these things yet, not in the OTT way you are implying - you have already assumed an awful lot (for example saying "...which is no doubt going to happen every week...") with absolutely no basis in fact in terms of DOI. How do you know 'without doubt' that it's going to happen every week? Answer: you don't. So your comment is both unfair and inaccurate.

And knowing how OTT he usually (always) is, you really believe that over the next 12 weeks he isn't going to revert back to type. I'd love to know the odds on that happening. Sky+ x30 all the way - but then I have never understood TV's obsession with him anyway. Awful man.
Yes, he it OTT on other shows, but don't you think that's what he's been asked to do on those other shows and play up to it? No one is so one-dimensional, you know - no one. As I said at the start, all I knew about Louie prior to him being on DOI was what I'd seen on TV Burp (and was dreading it a bit, I admit that) but - unlike you! - I was prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt last night and give him a chance. And I was very pleasantly surprised. Louie so far (and we can only judge him on his appearance - singular - so far, not second-guess what he'll be like next week and beyond) has adapted his skills and personality to this job, with an understanding that he needs to tone it down.

So knowing how OTT he 'usually' is doesn't prove anything - and it certainly doesn't prove he is going to 'revert back to type' as you put it. Again you are condemning him based on your preconceptions. And as for wanting to "know the odds" of that happening, I'm afraid that sounds like more of the same - more making your mind up before you know for sure. If you think the odds are that much in your favour go and put a bet on - and let us know how you got on!

As for not understanding TV's obsession with him, well you could say the same about Philip Schofield and Christine Bleakley come to that - both of them are also massively over-hyped, possibly more so, but I'm guessing it's ok for them to be because you like them and they don't annoy you!

I just think it is inevitable (as the guy seems hardly able to control himself) that he will get more and more animated and over the top about it all as the series goes on. I just can't stand his "personality" and the need to be the centre of attention - much likes Brunos nonsense on Strictly.
Here we go again: "I just think it is inevitable... that he will get more and more animated... as the series goes on...". Well, you might think that, but don't start trying to pass of your dislike of Louie as fact when it is only your personal opinion of a man whose personality you have already said you 'can't stand'. In other words you have already made up your mind about Louie because you don't like him or the way he has been presented in previous TV programmes, but you can't translate your opinions (and gross preconceptions) into a foretelling of the future with any kind of certainty.

If time proves you right then I will come back to this thread and admit you were right - but what if he doesn't do what you are so convinced of? Will you come back and admit to us you were wrong? Or will you move the goal posts so that all the poor man has to do it turn up on a Sunday and appear on camera without moving or uttering a word in order to behave in a manner which is (as far as you're concerned) OTT and inappropriate? Either way, I will be revisiting this thread with interest when the time comes!

Couldn't stand it when Emma Bunton did it either... Gay/straight - I don't care
Aha, so now we're moving the goal posts again! Instead of just bashing Louie (which you were quite happy to do without mentioning anyone else before in order to balance out your comments about him) you have now belatedly included Emma Bunton in this matter too. Funny you didn't mention her before when you thought you could just make this a 'bash Louie' thread!

So, to get this straight once and for all: you don't like Louie based on what you've seen of him on TV before; you are not willing to change that view at all, and neither are you willing to wait and see if he maintains a more 'toned down' approach to DOI; you dislike all comments made by any judge on any show like this if it dares to stray into anything of a vaguely humorous/light-hearted/personal/humorously light-hearted personal nature; and finally you are no great loss to those of us who would rather discuss things objectively rather than subjectively!

I saw louie on Tv Burb, and CIN or something and thought what the hell is that? Then we found Pineapple Studios on PickTV and were hooked. He has a great ability to take the micky out of himself but has such a passion for his art. I bought his book and found it really interesting. His family mortgaged their home to pay for him to go to stage school, his mum spent some of the money so his dad remortgaged his business. He fully appreciated the sacrifices his family made to allow him to fulfill his dreams. He has lived and worked in Italy and another country in the Med. Despite not speaking their languages he learnt them and worked there. He has supported Spice Girls and Take That on long tours. He is very good friends with Emma Bunton and Jason Gardener, however he admits to a dance off in Pineapple the first time he met Jason Gardener.
the book really suprised me - if you can get your hands on a copy its worth the read.

I was quite happy when I heard he had got the job on DOI and I think he did a good job yesterday. I really don't believe people can't understand him. He does use ballet terms - maybe thats what people don't understand.
He gives his comments without having to make personal jibes which has been done before by Jason, sticks to the dancing element and always gave something for the celeb to work on for next week.

I think they have the judging panel spot on this year

I understand everything Louie said perfectly clearly last night and as said his movements mimicked what had been done in the routine and not in an OTT way but helped illustrate his point and I guess to help if the celeb wasn't understanding him fully.

I think the intolerance shown by some posters here to someone with a speech impediment is absolutely shocking and he was not being overly suggestive towards any of the celebs or pro skaters. I have seen Louie in action live and know what he can be like and can say he was not being overly suggestive towards anyone and in that I have also seen him be serious and calm and passionate about his craft and I think he is taking this role seriously. Too many people are focusing purely on what they have seen on Pineapple or on other shows he has been on. Do you really think he would have had such a long career in theatre if that persona was what he was like all the time?
Fully agree.

The judging panel are really good this year. I love Louie and really like Katarina who I think will really begin to shine as the series progresses. I think she has a wicked sense of humour.

I didn't watch TV Burp or Pineapple, but the adverts were enough to put me off.

I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by Louie. Not what I expected at all. Feedback to the celebs & skaters was appropriate, perhaps a little fun, even if bad, something good was given for them to work on...think he may have watched CRH in the last series of strictly - he was sooo much better this year than ever before, followed the time aged & proven system of telling them what was wrong, how to put it right & leaving them with a positive so as not to dishearten them - so what if he gets a little excited...as long as he continues to judge properly.

I welcome him - rather that than Emma or Jason...one was too, well, vapid & the other was too plain NASTY!!
