Are you basing this on what you saw on last night's DOI? Because I didn't see anything to complain about in terms of Louie's restraint. Like some others, I wasn't sure if I would like him because all I've seen of him is OTT clips and appearances on Harry Hill's TV Burp. However, as a previous poster said, a man like Louie would not have a career that has lasted this long if he only had one persona.
From what I saw last night he totally got the premise of DOI and commented accordingly. He spoke about the dance aspects because that is his field, and yes he made a few humorous/light-hearted comments along the way, but at least they were spontaneous and not cringingly scripted like Philip Schofield's often are.

But the point is Louie hasn't done these things yet, not in the OTT way you are implying - you have already assumed an awful lot (for example saying "...which is no doubt going to happen every week...") with absolutely no basis in fact in terms of DOI. How do you know 'without doubt' that it's going to happen every week? Answer: you don't. So your comment is both unfair and inaccurate.

Yes, he it OTT on other shows, but don't you think that's what he's been asked to do on those other shows and play up to it? No one is so one-dimensional, you know - no one. As I said at the start, all I knew about Louie prior to him being on DOI was what I'd seen on TV Burp (and was dreading it a bit, I admit that) but - unlike you! - I was prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt last night and give him a chance. And I was very pleasantly surprised. Louie so far (and we can only judge him on his appearance - singular - so far, not second-guess what he'll be like next week and beyond) has adapted his skills and personality to this job, with an understanding that he needs to tone it down.
So knowing how OTT he 'usually' is doesn't prove anything - and it certainly doesn't prove he is going to 'revert back to type' as you put it. Again you are condemning him based on your preconceptions. And as for wanting to "know the odds" of that happening, I'm afraid that sounds like more of the same - more making your mind up before you know for sure. If you think the odds are that much in your favour go and put a bet on - and let us know how you got on!
As for not understanding TV's obsession with him, well you could say the same about Philip Schofield and Christine Bleakley come to that - both of them are also massively over-hyped, possibly more so, but I'm guessing it's ok for them to be because you like them and they don't annoy you!

Here we go again: "I just think it is inevitable... that he will get more and more animated... as the series goes on...". Well, you might think that, but don't start trying to pass of your dislike of Louie as fact when it is only your personal opinion of a man whose personality you have already said you 'can't stand'. In other words you have already made up your mind about Louie because you don't like him or the way he has been presented in previous TV programmes, but you can't translate your opinions (and gross preconceptions) into a foretelling of the future with any kind of certainty.
If time proves you right then I will come back to this thread and admit you were right - but what if he doesn't do what you are so convinced of? Will you come back and admit to us you were wrong? Or will you move the goal posts so that all the poor man has to do it turn up on a Sunday and appear on camera without moving or uttering a word in order to behave in a manner which is (as far as you're concerned) OTT and inappropriate? Either way, I will be revisiting this thread with interest when the time comes!

Aha, so now we're moving the goal posts again! Instead of just bashing Louie (which you were quite happy to do without mentioning anyone else before in order to balance out your comments about him) you have now belatedly included Emma Bunton in this matter too. Funny you didn't mention her before when you thought you could just make this a 'bash Louie' thread!
So, to get this straight once and for all: you don't like Louie based on what you've seen of him on TV before; you are not willing to change that view at all, and neither are you willing to wait and see if he maintains a more 'toned down' approach to DOI; you dislike all comments made by any judge on any show like this if it dares to stray into anything of a vaguely humorous/light-hearted/personal/humorously light-hearted personal nature; and finally you are no great loss to those of us who would rather discuss things objectively rather than subjectively!
