Verily Verity
I'm getting increasingly pissed off at the constant references to sad or pathetic Verity and the general demeaning of her - whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty?
She got PICKED by Simon. She didn't ask for it, she didn't grovel or beg for it (unlike Rowetta) and as far as I can recall she didn't turn on the tears to get it - in fact she was amazed that she got chosen. Both Tabby and her have suffered the same hate because they were picked over someone more popular in your eyes. If you want to vent your invective on someone do it on the people who made the choices, not those who were chosen. OK, so she cried and the producers chose to concentrate on that. Does that alone make her sad and pathetic because if that's the case then anyone who's ever cried must be the same. It must be an emotional roller-coaster to be on this program and I've had the odd moist eye just watching. I for one am hoping that she can overcome her obvious nerves and produce a decent performance to silence all you critics once and for all. FFS, give the woman a chance

i agree, she crys, SO WHAT!! Everyone who's human crys at some point in they're life. I'd like to see her do well, however I don't think she's strong enough to compete with some of the other performers in the competiton

Sorry, Satchmo...they ALL wanted to be 'picked', including Auntie Vee. Yeah....Rowetta went on and on...but Verity does do the 'damsel that was once in distress' thing. She 'pleads' in a different way.

I agree to a certain extent. Verity is by no means my favourite - I'm backing Rowetta all the way - but I must say I have been a bit 'surprised', 'annoyed', 'disheartened' by the vitriol shown by some on here towards Verity. Yes she had a bit of a 'sob story', many of the contestants did, but the person you should be angry at is Simon for putting her through if she didn't deserve it. He might think he would win by getting the public's sympathy vote but he will be proved wrong on that point - if that is why he put her through. Give her a chance - if her voice is as bad as most people think surely she will be voted off pretty straight away. Or are we all gullible sheep?

.Anyway, I have a vague hope that Verity might well cause that 'tingling' sensation that only Alex on FA has done thus far.

![]() Poor Verity. She's sweet with a lovely voice and has been maligned enough without having to be compared to Little Miss Foghorn. |

The GBP managed to buy into McManus. And now realise that this was a mistake. Verity quite clearly isn't the winner. OK she is a nice person with a niceish voice blah blah blah, but we all know there are at least 5 more talented acts on the show. The reaction stems from her getting through although she has got less talent than say Otis, yet is deemed to have a more interesting and watchable 'personality'. And when she got through she didn't accept it with joy, just more nerves and crying and doubt and shaking, I can imagine this leads to negative thoughts from people. I, for one, have seen too many 'sympathy' votes cast by the GBP and maybe myself and others are just bored of it. And by going on the show she is 'fairgame' to be criticised for any of her actions in an internet forum. |

I believe Verity got through on merit. The fact that she is easy on the eye and has a likable personalityand a touch of vulnerability won't have harmed her chances perhaps, but Verity has one of the best voices in this contest - possibly a little too subtle for those who prefer a 'big' (ie loud or coarse) voice, but very classy.

I hope Verity proves herself - she's been quite hit and miss with me so far. But if she doesn't perform vocally, I hope she will be voted off. It's crueller to vote someone as the winner, then desert them rather than voting them off a show.

A very good and valid point R-H, The one thing RTV music shows have taught us is vote with your ears not your hearts. McManc was IMO a dreadfully ordinary pub singer who got swept along with the platitudes of Cowell and Co and ended up actually believing she was an "idol" of sorts. The GBP soon tired of that quick smart, and voted with their pockets after single one,so MM like a RTV snakes and ladders game, finds herself back at square one by Christmas. I make no secret of my dislike of Verity, she is IMO Simon's "pet project" for this term, and just like McManus in last term's project, will disappear every bit as quickly. |

I quite agree - I think she could be a bit of a dark horse, given half a chance. |

It is a good point that Auntie Vee isn't in the loud mould and that may appeal to many people. I do remember on AI that 'shouters' really go overboard there (e.g. Diana Degarmo) and often ruin songs. |

Verity - weakest singer and this assessment came from the horses's mouth (Simon) but the oldest, the meek one, the one with a sob story ( who won't let us forget about that she's been done wrong Michelle - well, she's the very big one of the group, could sing even if it's more for cruise crowd, & therefore Simon thought might endear to the public & boy, did he ever got his wish!!! And where is Michelle now? For more info pls take a look on the thread titled : Michelle & Verity - What do they have in common???? |
