According to Victoria Newton in the Sun:

The track will be produced by Radiohead guru Nigel Godrich, while Midge wants U2 frontman Bono to sing his original line: “Tonight thank God it’s them instead of you.”

Former Ultravox frontman Midge revealed The Darkness star Justin Hawkins asked to sing the famous lyric — but that he would prefer Bono to have the honour.

Midge said: “Bono turned that line into his and I think it would be really difficult to replace him.

“The Darkness wanted to do it, but I don’t think it would work with Justin’s falsetto voice.”

i think it would be great to have bono sing it again - it would somehow connect this one with the original - you'd hear it and it would sound different, then you'd hear bono, and it would be a surreal echo of the original.

If Bob Geldof involved in this one at all? All I've heard about is Midge Ure.

The sick and twisted side of my character would want The Darkness to sing that

"Tonight thank God it's them instead of yooooou"

They'd be guaranteed at least one sale if they did that.

“DaisyBumbleroot Band Aid II??? I must have missed that one....”

Was the 1989 xmas topper and the last number 1 of the 1980's. Contained such delights as Kylie, Jason Donovan, Mel & Kim, Sonia, Bros & Rick Astley.

Bet you are glad you missed it now!....

Which is odd, because if anyone saw the doc about the making of DTKICT on BBC Three last night, both Midge and Bono said they hated that line, it wasn't even in the first draft of the lyrics that Sir Geldof wrote and Bono had huge reservations about singing it...

..But they do agree it's the line that makes people take note of the rest of the lyrics from that point on.

..Although that line is more harsh and probably what a rapper or someone like that would want :P

Uh I remeber Band Aid 2. My mum actually went out and bought it! It was dire, I heard it on VH1 quite recently when they were doing a #1s marathon. Truely dreadful, the only artists who took part that are still around now are Kylie and Sir Cliff! No suprises that it was one of Pete Watermans brainwaves!

Band Aid 3, seems like a good idea though. They seem to have only involved crediable artists so far. But I do think there is room for the odd pop act. It said on the radio today that Busted will be involved.

Thought he probably would.

I think being picky about which acts are asked to take part when they know full well getting people who aren't perhaps as credible, but every bit as popular would lead to far more people buying the record is rather low.

why can't they record a different song either a good cover or a completely new song, there is no need to do the same song for a third time, and honestly a bad song cannot be excused simply because its for charity

The idea of the two pianos opening the song, one played by Coldplay and the other by Keane, and ending it Darkness style sounds refreshing.

Although I can't help but think there's too much indie involvement...

They need people with power...

They need...

HUCKNALL AND STIPE!

I am not too sure about Jamelia singing any part in this song, she can be the backing singer.

I just got this off the sun online

ROBBIE Williams is to join the all-star cast of Band Aid III — singing via satellite.

The superstar, 30, hit on the idea because he is determined not to be left out of the remake of 1984 charity hit Do They Know It’s Christmas?

Commitments in the US mean he cannot be in Britain when recording takes place on November 14.

But a senior executive managing the project, which will raise cash for famine relief, revealed yesterday: “He’s arranging to sing his sections from a studio in Los Angeles.

“He has too many commitments to fly over just for the day. But he didn’t want to miss out.”

Robbie joins a star-studded choir which includes Coldplay, The Darkness, Keane and Travis.

Yesterday it was revealed recording will take place at North London’s legendary Air Studios — home of Beatles producer George Martin.”

I am fairly sure I am the only one who thinks Robbie should sing the "tonight thank God its them...! line.

I disagree - the sentiment of the song is such that it is the perfect song to be rerecorded and rereleased, and I am looking forward to hearing the third version.

As for it being a "bad song", are you taking the piss? It is one of the best songs written, and certainly one of the most powerful. The fact that you aren't constantly exposed to the song - there's always a good 11 month gap between airings - extends the longevity of it but, let's be honest, a song like that will not die.

It's a good song but I agree with the other poster, if they want to do another Band Aid it should be a new song, not the same song that just spoils the original.

It doesn't really matter what they record. They could do Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer as longs as it does the job, sells bucket loads and raises shit loads of money for the Band Aid trust.

And what a lovely cover that was.

She shouldn't even be allowed within a seeing/touching distance of the band aid studio.
