A worthy winner indeed. I thought his Hands of the Ripper American Smooth was a truly unique interpretation of that dance. Chelsee's Rumba was a demonstration of practically all of the skills your "worthy winner" had FAILED to master by the end of the competition.

chelsee was never going to win. she wasn't the best dancer and she wasn't the favourite with the public.

she's a bit short, a bit odd looking, and presents herself as a bit thick and a bit common.

now we brits love an underdog, but only in an average field and not when there's a thoroughbred in the race.

but never mind, because she is the next judy dench on ice in the west end. with a bit of elocution, perhaps some corrective surgery and a half a chance. at least, that seems to be the view of many around here,

Since you have in many recent posts talked about your intelligence, let me direct this post to it. Any intelligent and observant person that watches stricly will know that the public vote is 50% of what dictates whether you are bottom two or not. The other 50% is the judges combined scores. The observant person will also know that since the semifinal of Tom chambers, any combination of those two scores, the person who has the most votes will always go through, even if s/he is at the bottom of the leader board. So assuming that it is true, if Harry was top of the voting public, then no matter what the judges had score him he would still be in the final. Specially since he had much weaker weeks (rumba week) and still made it through.


Besides the rule about not repeating the semifinal dances (only one exception in how many series?) there are other considerations.

In your view chelsee's paso was perfect and so it was in the eyes of the judges, but for many, me included was a bellow par dance for her. Until that dance, I was supporting both chelsee and Harry, but that dance was for me what seal the deal towards Harry. In chelsee's i saw tumbles, bad flamenco hands, shoulders... (I am no ball room expert but I am a bit of a flamenco expert so for a flamenco inspired paso, I know what I am talking about). So, as much it may had attract some voters it may had lost others.

Then there is the question of Latin/ballroom. Chelsee's strong in both but pasha leans obviously towards Latin, Harry excels at ballroom and mediocre/moderately good in Latin. In the final, for best chance of winning they should offer at least one of each. Chelsee's jive had to be featured as jives are very popular (it baffles me, it is my most disliked dance of all) and hers was, as jives went this year, the best but still with room for improvement (39 the first time irc). Since Her showdance was definitely Latin feel, and her choice of *new dance was the rumba (which she in numerous occasions mention how much she wanted to do) again Latin. She HAD to do a ballroom as her favourite dance, and she chose the one that in my opinion is the most memorable, fun and showy of all the ones she had done, the quickstep.


The only other ballroom dance that I can recall from Chelsee's *apart from the quickstep from when she first danced it, was the AS, dance on the semi finals. I remember all her latins though and all of Harry's ballroom so it's not a question of lack of memory but lack of impact. And remember, I was supporting chelsee until that "perfect" paso. Which to me means, that most likely pasha - and probably chelsee too- assume that the quickstep was the best ballroom dance to win the show.

Harry does NOT excel at ballroom - he just gives the appearance of being a good ballroom dancer for as long as his hands are attached to his partner.

And he is far too wooden ever to be capable of excelling at latin.

I take it you didn't watch otherwise you would know how all sorts of stircly professionals (present and past) did say repeatedly how much Harry excelled at ballroom. And since it is clear that you are no more expert than me in the subject of ballroom, I will take their opinions over yours.

I haven't posted much recently either, and tend to agree with your reasons, although I'm not always as forthright as you.

For what it's worth, apenny4them, I was supporting both Chelsee and Harry until the final, but hadn't voted for either up to that point.

I voted for Harry in the final,after watching the routines, simply because I thought he was the better dancer on the night. Nothing to do with being influenced by anything the judges did or didn't say, because I don't particularly listen to them anyway.

I am NOT an obsessive Harry fan, an accusation you seem to level at people who happened to vote for him, but if I was Chelsee I'd certainly be worried about your seeming level of obsession with her right now!

I wonder if you would have felt the same had the judges picked a first dance for Chelsee which would have given her the opportunity to showcase her ballroom expertise?

If Harry impresses you as a dancer then so be it. I personally can't look at the American Smooth he delivered in the final without shuddering at his hands.

Which dancer was the best dancer on the night will invariably be influenced to a major extent by what the individual observer is looking for from a particular dance.

Chelsee had a poor final as said before probably nerves got her in a bad way rather than the better way in previous weeks. That is how life is with finals it cannot be run again so that Chelsee can win it this time. Scoring on this is so subjective and unless Harry and Chelsee had run 100m then it will be matters of personal opinion. BTW my fave was neither Chelsee or Harry

Harry and Chelsee are so last year literally now and there is Dancing on Ice to watch.

I've heard quite a lot of people trying to convince themselves that Harry was a worthy winner by claiming that Chelsee underperformed in the final. I'm hopeful that you'll be different to all of the others in that you'll be able to point to a few specific instances in her four dances which support that theory.

They should be fairly easy to spot - she must have messed up big-time to justify losing to a dancer who can come out and deliver an American Smooth with such woeful armography.

1) Considering the other judges marks I highly doubt they were going to savage Harry's Charleston had they been given the opportunity to speak.

2) If you want to cry injustice at a poorer dancer beating a better dancer then this series is nowhere near the top of the pile...Darren Gough? Chris Hollins? Tom Chambers?

3) Why would the BBC decide to give Harry an unfair advantage; how would that benefit them? Chelsee is a BBC child, she worked for them on another show in the early weeks of the series. Harry's from a relatively popular boyband - he's hardly going to jump ship to present Panorama.

4) Techincally Chelsee's performances were great on final night, but to me she lost the verve and drive which had helped her explode onto the Strictly scene. She had suddenly become the one who placed steps and was careful on the dancefloor; in other words, nerves got to her. Harry, on the other hand, after being too careful in previous weeks, managed to let go on final night. Just my opinion.

5) However much you argue there is absolutely no logic behind the BBC protecting Harry, the judges protecting Harry, Bruce protecting Harry, Tess protecting Harry, the guy on camera two protecting Harry...you get the picture. When a favourite loses, the perceived injustice can rankle even if, in the cold light of day, the injustice is a personal view rather than fact.

This is all rather tedious.

Lots of luck. I agree with all of the above and have tried more than once (without success) to get an answer to 1,2,3 and 5. I suspect my failure to achieve lies with the immense probability that said answer does not exist, even in the OP's parallel reality. However, as I say - best of luck. I'll be interested to see results should there be any.

Mods?.

I didn't vote for either Harry or Chelsee on final night because a) for some very personal reasons outside of SCD, which are not for this forum, I cannot stand Harry's pro partner so I could never vote for them as a partnership. and b) I felt that whether Harry was the better dancer or not, he would win, because of his huge fan base - and I wasn't unhappy that he was likely to win, since I considered him to be slightly overall the better dancer, Had he been with someone else, I may have voted for him to win. Not for any silly reason, but simply because overall, I felt he started slow and came up consistent and had the highest percentage of figures in his dances correct, compared to Chelsee who was a fabulously bouncy and explosive little butterball who really brought some vigour and enjoyable explosion to her dances - I enjoyed watching her best. BUT she was often poor in transition - quite rigid in transition between the explosiveness compared to Harry who had a higher percentage of transition smoothness in most of his dances. These reasons are why I felt he was the more balanced dancer of the two in the end. And like someone said, Chelsee danced poorly in the final. But both of course had many faults in their dancing, naturally.

I've managed not to bite and avoided posting on this thread up until now, as I was just so fed up of you going round and round in circles and refusing to accept the simple fact that not everyone agrees with your opinion.

But now I'm slightly angry as well as just bored. If you're going to place 'value' on other peoples' posts, then you're going to lose the respect of a lot of people on here very quickly. People have taken the time to give you long and reasoned responses, and for you to dismiss those as being of little value just because they don't agree with your argument is frankly a little rude.

Like all the sensible people who have posted before me, this is the last I'm going to say on these type of threads. Mods, I hope you've been following this and will at last put all this inane running around in circles to bed, which I'm sure many of us here would appreciate.
