Will Kati Skate on DOI?
I know it's Torvill and Dean's show, but it's always saddened me that we don't see the wonderful Robin Cousins skate (for health reasons, I would assume?).
Karen and Nicky was rather out of the question since they didn't seem to be able to stand each other any more by the time DOI came around, and now Nicky has left. Now we have the wonderful Kati, still looking in great shape and a much vaunted veteran. I for one would love a little guest spot on the ice from her - anyone else? |

Personally I thought it was fine but the allegation was she was dressing like that to get the votes from the male judges

Pretty much - the build up to the 88 games had been the battle of the Carmen's between Witt and the American Debi Thomas- the American press were bigging Thomas up - and then Kati skated forst out of the two and did a strong long programme, Thomas followed and fell apart.
The mistake Thomas made was to take on Kati in doing the same programme- as Robin Cousins has said on a number of occasions - no-one will package a programme better than Katarina Witt |

Apparently the reason we haven't seen Robin skate on DOI........ is that no one in charge has ever asked him to!
He said that in an interview a couple of years ago - and he hinted that he would be happy to do so if asked - I assume they haven't asked Katarina either! |

Marvellous idea, OP. I am sure Ms Witt still has a great routine in her, even after all this time.
![]() And just in case The Spence is feeling left out, perhaps we should let him pirouette about on a bit of carpet mid-ice during an upcoming pro routine.

I've always had the impression that not having guest skaters on the show was a decision taken to preserve the mystique around T&D - whether it's T&D calling it or the producers, I don't know.
I said this last year when Johnny Weir was a judge on Skating with the Stars and (I think) performed on the show - why couldn't we have had him over for a spot, instead of the frequently dire music acts that come on? What place has a musical performance got on ice anyway? Really I'd be delighted to see Robin, Katarina, the Kerrs now they're retired, Johnny Weir if he's not back in training and anyone else with a decent pedigree who wants to come on. Even some show or stunt skaters we've never heard of would be a refreshing change from the music acts. And as for the idea that it takes away from T&D - nothing, not being 30 years older, not being a bit slower or less athletic, NOTHING takes away from their position as national treasures and genuine world-class competitors in their day. Why the PTB don't realise that the audience are smart enough to value T&D for what they are, and any guest artists for what THEY are, without making comparisons is beyond me. |

I hope she does perform, and I want more routines by professionals, and not just Chris and Jayne. I'm happy to see their routines, but it's obvious they can't do everything, especially when they are creating all of the routines for all of the celebs as well.
I don't have a problem with the musical performances. In fact, they could easily have more, as well as more show skating. There is plenty of time in the results show for it. They just pad it out to make a half hour show as I believe that's the miminum length for it to count for ratings. If they are worried about the rink getting cluttered and the practical timings of moving performers on and off the ice, they could pre-record those bits between shows. I'm sure the studio audience would be delighted to have something to keep them occupied. |

Also I've always said that whilst Jayne & Chris could continue to open the show if that's what TPTB want, surely there's room in the results show for the pro skaters to be showcased. Given the length of the series all the pros should get a chance to showcase their talent properly at some point. |

Katerina would have to lose some weight before she skated again. Plus she is only a few years younger than T & D who are the same age as Robin Cousins. He said in an interview fairly recently that he can't skate any more due to serious knee injuries/operations.

He can't do routines with all the jumps etc that he used to do because of his knee problems - but he does still skate a bit to demonstrate the steps in his ice shows - and he did don his skates for something like the Make a wish foundation quite recently (its on youtube somewhere!). Even crocked - he still has most of his moves - still fluid over the ice etc - probaly because he now dances a fair bit with his musical theatre (I saw him in panto once and he was great at acting, singing and dancing!) |

Robin was Teen Angel in Grease as well wasn't he? So he clearly doesn't need skates to own a stage

I'll never forget staying up late with my parents to watch Robin Cousins win his Olympic Gold in 1980. He was truly amazing, as are T&D, of course.
And Katarina Witt, always a pure joy to watch in her day. My favourite female solo skater. I wonder how well she can skate these days? It would certainly be brilliant if she would do a routine or two on the show, I agree.

Her Carmen routine is still quite mesmerising to watch. I think the artistry was sacrificed for technical difficulty after her era and the sport was none the richer for it. It was already technically challenging enough.
