Her Carmen routine is still quite mesmerising to watch. I think the artistry was sacrificed for technical difficulty after her era and the sport was none the richer for it. It was already technically challenging enough.
I just looked up this (God bless YouTube) and I have to say,the bit danced from 1:43 to "Habanera" would have been delightful performed just on a dancefloor
I agree with your comment about artistry;it is the reason I rated John Curry above his competitors in the 70's and why I was excited watching Jane and Chris in their heyday.
I seem to remember they placed only third when returning some years later to world class ice dance competition, but IIRC, I still preferred their routine to the others even then.

Yes that was at the 1994 Olympics. I did love the Face The Music routine but have to say the most memorable part of their comeback for me was their fantastic Rumba.

I do not recall that one but it quite of illustrates the point, the most exquisite example of dancing on ice.

I dont' think there are any worries about the dancing aspect of current teams when we have dance couples such as Virtue/Moir and Davis/White offering programmes such as these this season

Whilst in the ladies Czisny and in particular Carolina Kostner are proving it is not all about the big jumps and bringing elegance and beauty to the ice.

There will never be another Katarina or T&D but that does not mean the skaters of today aren't' bringing something to the table to appreciate and I love to see the sport develop and grow in new ways ( well somethings I don't' like, but I enjoy seeing how the skaters cope with the new restrictions placed upon them and still manage to bring their own sense of style)
