Gimmicks in the music industry, are they really needed? Adele can sell millions and millions of records using her vocal talent, she doesn't need to dress up like a ******** to get noticed. I really wish all the gimmicky shit would just disappear, it really turns me off I'm honest, I love Lady GaGa's voice but I just can't watch her music videos!!!

Anyone else agree?

In this industry people need gimmicks to stand out amongst each other.

Couldn't it be argued the fact that Adele just stands and sings is also a gimmick?

A "gimmick" doesn't need to be as extreme as wearing meat dresses and the like, it's simply something that makes an act stand out from their peers.

Therefore you could argue that Adele does indeed have a gimmick, and her gimmick is that she seemingly has none. It's part of her hype; she's the anthesis to the likes of Gaga et all because she just stands there and sings, no theatrics, no costumes, no stunts and she isn't a typical thin blonde popstar.

That is her "angle", and it obviously works.

Im not an expert on the band at all, but I always thought that Slipknot and them wearing those masks rather gimmicky. I never liked those masks, just creepy.

Rock bands are some of the biggest gimmick users around - For example think Kiss with the make up or AC DC and the guy wearing the school uniform

Pretty much every artist has some form of gimmick it's just some are more obvious than others
