As always the new year is a time when many artists are putting the finishing touches to their last ditch attempts to keep their careers alive or are desperately trying to save projects which dissapointed in the 4th Quarter of the previous year.

Which artist do you think are in danger of facing the axe?

I think that The Saturdays and Pixie Lott are the obvious ones who have to try and regain ground lost and get their albums back up the charts to pick up sales during the quieter period.

Little Boots is someone who has a lot of pressure to deliver something that will get her out of the danger zone, she started off strong after winning the BBC sound poll but lost her way and little and things fizzled out. Luckily for her she has the fact she won that poll to at least give her new material a chance. People obviously believed in her as an artist she just needs to show why.

Marina and the Diamonds is circling the drain too, despite rumours a plenty of her being dropped and the album being scrapped it looks as if the project is going ahead. But with Lana Del Rey taking on the same themes (albeit from a different but much more succesful angle), and her single 'Radioactive' dissapointing in the low 20s when it charted, its hard to see how she will make any impact. It would seem that this will be her last album.

Any more?

Sugababes 4.0....Sweet 7 was not a great success, and they were also dropped from their US deal. The lead single from their new album had to be given away for free and they haven't been seen for months on end and have made no announcements at all about any future singles or albums. And to top it off, Heidi was in the skate off on week 1 of Dancing on Ice :-/

I don't think there's really anyone facing the axe that I can think of off hand, but I think there's people that really need to up their game now as the public are loosing interest fast...Leona Lewis and Pixie Lott.

I agree with Sugababes 4.0 - To be honest, I don't even think they know what is happening anymore.

The only one I can really think of, and i'm a huge fan of is VV Brown. She is a great artist who I feel is deathly underrated. 'Crying Blood' and 'Leave!' Didn't chart, 'Shark In The Water' only got to #34 and 'Game Over' didn't chart. Then her album bombed at #30. I thought she was over with the first album. But the fact 'Shark In the Water' and her album also did well in France and 'SITW' went gold in US is the reason she got to do a second album - she really needs to pull it out of the bag with the new album. Hopefully she can gain more of a UK fanbase with this album.

I am expecting a "Sugababes split!" headline soon, possibly when Heidi is eliminated from DOI.

The Saturdays will follow.

Leona Lewis and Alexandra Burke's albums have got to be substantial hits. Matt Cardle I expect to be dropped before the next season of X Factor.

I think Pixie and The Saturdays need to up their games fast, do heaps of promo etc.
As for Alexandra Burke, I think she'll be fine, her new song sounds amazing so im betting she'll do even better than before.

I agree...I think Alexandra will be fine, her new single sounds like a smash and she has some pretty amazing collaborations and a US launch to look forward to this year...

I am however slightly worried for Leona, Echo didn't perform as expected, and Syco botched the promo for Collide leaving her with a #4....she deserves better than that. Pixie Lott is her own worst enemy...claiming she 'doesn't need to be sexy' but still dressing in ugly clothes and stroking her arms and legs every 5 seconds in her videos...no wonder her singles are bombing, not to mention her latest album is dreadful.

I don't know what it is with the Saturdays, but they've never really worked from the start, and with Una pregnant and Frankie fresh off the funny farm, their future is not bright or orange tbh.

Matt Cardle has already sealed his own fate, and I reckon JLS will head the same way in a few years....1D and The Wanted are stealing their fanbase, and there is only so long that you can rush-release albums before the public start to get bored.
