I know this seems horrible to the majority of pet lovers everywhere.....but is there anyone else out there who really, really don't like dogs but love cats?

I seem to come across so many people who hate cats and love dogs...as if it's kinda the 'norm'.

Me - I really can't stand anything about dogs. They smell, slaver, never leave you alone and bark. And.....they bark. Yeuch.

I'm the exact opposite, Zip. Love dogs - they just seem so happy all the time and really goofy and loveable, whereas with cats they look dead bitchy and grumpy and am terrified of the noises they make and the looks they give you.

I don't hate dogs, but I prefer cats. I have four!

i love dogs, but cats not so keen, we have one and he only comes home for food, wont come in the house unless we leave a door/window open at all times, id happily give him away if i knew he was going to a good home! took him in 5 years ago for my uncle who couldnt keep both his new cats, didnt particularly want one but cant say no to a critter in need. im allergic to him too, so even if he does want fuss once in a while i come out in itchy lumps,mys eyes swell up and i cant breath properly. obviously we pay out to keep him healthy, wormer, flea treatments, food, and he has a cat kennel with squishy bed in it out in the garden as hes scared of the house (he disappeared for 3 days last year and when he came home he refused to come in the house) but it all seems a total waste of money for a pet we rarely see/have contact with. thing is, nobody wants a 5yr old black and white moggy, who is terrified of other cats and isnt particularly affectionate, he used to adore people contact but with my allergies getting worse, i havent been able to keep up the fussing and cuddles. hes loving when we do pick him up, its just so rare that he seems a bit of a loner now

a dog however, well, they are always pleased to see you, happy to be part of the family...and im not allergic to everything about them

I like all animals, but I particularly love Cats. I don't really understand how anyone with such love for one kind of animal could say they hate another.

Dogs are wonderful, loving animals, but I'll always be a Cat man.

I've had multiples of both over the years and would have both again if we had the right property, but living in a flat means dogs are our favourites as they are more adaptable.

I have come to realise that all domestic animals are good in their own way. Each type requires some effort on our behalf to get the best from them and sometimes that means moving out of your comfort zone. Cats can be great and dogs too. I think that to see each species at their best you need to spend time with them without outside interference. Just stroking a cat or patting some random dog is not enough. Get a bond going and both of you will enjoy each others company. It is especially rewarding when you deal with a rescue animal and overcome the fear it has.

I love dogs, dont mind cats but they are snide.

Dogs are so loyal and love you to death. Cats just please themelves.

I think all animals smell a bit, including cat.

I love both, but used to favour dogs. However these days my cat is an indispensable part of my life.

I have a cat but I also love other animals and I wouldn't go so far as to say I hate other animals people have as pets. Just don't ever own a dog if you feel so strongly about it.

I'm alright about dogs, they are lovely animals and I'm happy to give them fuss if they want it but I've never owned a dog and never really wanted to either. I'm happy fussing other peoples dogs. I have 3 cats, love them to bits although I had never really wanted cats either. Just decided one day I'd like to get cat, few weeks later when I went to get one I ended up coming home with 2, then 5 years later took in a recsue so now have 3. Wouldn't be without them. I never say never about a dog, just have no plans right now in my life.

I love dogs as well, we had one a few years back, but I'm not willing any longer to give them the one-on-one attention that they need - they're really like children in that way, and mine have grown up now! I love my cats, but if I ignore them for the day because I'm busy, they'll not think badly of me and they'll just look after themselves - and still roll up for cuddles when I'm available!

I am the opposite, cats are the only animals I dislike.

I like dogs but they are so much more dependent than cats, I couldn't go out to work all day and leave dogs in the house all day long, whereas with cats, its no problem.
Dogs are muh more of a tie than cats, its easy to find someone to feed your cat(s) for a few days teh same is not true of hounds,

I think cats have much more distinct personalities than dogs and some people find them intimidating as a result.

I love both dogs and cats but currently just have cats because they suit my lifestyle. I love their independence, their hedonistic tendencies, their refusal to 'comply' with my requests unless it suits them, their individual, quirky personalities. Dogs are very loyal and loving, as a previous poster has said, but you need to earn the love and loyalty of a cat. I consider my cats to be loving and loyal, at least when it suits them to be Cats are clever enough to manipulate their owners into providing the lifestyle they want (eg being picky with certain foods, having outdoor access on demand, the best seat in the house etc) though dogs can also be very spoilt.

I also can't understand how any loving pet owner can express 'hate' for a different type of pet. I wouldn't like rodents or snakes as pets but I certainly don't hate them - and I just can't see how anyone could dislike cats or dogs.

I love all animals. I would love a dog even with the amount of cats i have as well. My kids say i go ga ga if i see a dog i always stroke them cant help it. I walk a couple of dogs for neighbours as well. When there dog died i was absolutley gutted the same with all the cats i have looked after as well.

you've not really met any well behaved dogs it seems, most i meet are fie but then there are some who the owners let run wild it seems, and they're horrible.
when i got my snake, she came from a house where the woman had two staffies and a bichon frise
one of the staffies just would not leave off. trying to lick my face, jumping on me then mouthing me when i didn't respond to it

i've met cats that are just as bad though.
boyfriends housemates cat is constantly around your feet, if you ignore him he purposely goes and pads at his cat flap to it makes a racket
at about 2 am every time i stay over, he forces his way into the bedroom and sits in the middle of the floor licking himself as loudly as he possibly can.
when you do finally give in and stroke him, after a while he'll just turn around and bite you for no good reason, wander off, then come back and expect you to repeat the whole process again.
he's also a shoe botherer. can;t leave my shoes unattended or he chews & scratches them

I'm a dog person, through and through, to me they just make much better companions
i don;t hate cats as much as i'd just never have one as a pet. i don;t really see the appeal.
there are a couple of lovely white ones in the street who are lovely little cats, i'll gladly stroke them & play with them (we look after the larger of the two when his owner is away, which pretty much amounts to going into his house, putting out food, a quick pet and then back home)
as lovely as they are though, i really wouldn't have one as a pet.

I used to be a cat person, not strongly but I preferred them. Now, I've changed my ways, and become more a dog person. Miraculous as it may seem, conversion is possible.

Also, the variety in dogs is absolutely ridiculous. If you talk about a "cat", you generally have some idea of what they're going to be like. With dogs...

My extreme dislike of dogs is really nothing to do with whether they are well behaved or not....I can't abide any of them. In fact their 'friendliness' really annoys me. I can't stand it when a friendly dog bounds up to you and the owner says, 'Don't worry, it won't touch you', - it's a pain in the neck.

Puppies can be very cute - then they grow up.

Cats are always No.1 for me. I'm really quite wary of dogs because i was bitten by one when I was about 6, so I developed a fear of them. It faded to a degree as I grew up, but I never felt 100% alright around dogs.

I've had cats and dogs and love them equally.

I don't hate any animals.

I actually love both cats and dogs, but ultimately prefer cats.

This happened to me too, I can tolerate dogs if they are well trained and don't jump at you, but the people I know who have dogs let them run wild.

I have had cats since I was 8 and I love them they are so cute and cuddly.
