cool, thanks. I have my itunes library including films stored on a NAS, could i watch my films (and less important play my music) if I was to do this. (the films have all come from itunes or a itunes friendly digital disk/blu ray)
You should be able to play any of your NAS content after you jail break, even formats such as .mkv.

I was reading an article a few days ago about that. Also a number of people who buy HDTVs but don't actually have an HD source or have it hooked up incorrectly.
Don't surprise me, my next door neighbour never uses the Hd channels on their T.V, always watches via Sky Sd,

I know a few people my Dad included who have a HD T.V and yet no HD source. To Be fair to my Dad, he don't watch T.V that much and prefer to have his head stuck in a book and only got the T.V because his old one was at the end of it's life and Hd sets are all you can buy now.

Talking stuff not being set up right. I took a netbook back which I had done some work on to a friends of a friends place today. Set it up on the net, got it all working and someone decided to use the phone and bang went the internet. I did not really put two and two together after all they was using Bt broadband and I thought it may have been BT.

I was then told it always happens when someone used the phone, so it got me thinking maybe broken filter. so I had a quick look and sure that the filter was on a double adaptor and the phone was plugged into the other part of the adaptor. unplugged phone, stuck it into filter, problem solved.

They been having this problem for over 12 months and thought it was normal, not being able to use phone and broadband.

You see some strange things sometimes, I saw one place that had three filters plugged into each other, how on earth their broadband and phone worked I have no idea.

I was thinking of getting one of these for the TV in the bedroom, but will hold off until I know whether it does lovefilm and the on demand services.

Nice bit of kit but really don't need it. My ps3 does everything and does it well.

I was really keen on this, but then when I see you can get the new WDTV streaming for £75 makes the Roku looks too pricey...

They simply must get all the online services, or it will seem a bit pointless

Both Roku devices seem now to have disappeared completely from Amazon.
Not sure if this means they are now delayed for an unknown amount of time or whether they have taken so many orders, they have removed them from sale for a while?

Maybe pending the installation of LoveFilm on them?

Well I wonder if they've just sold out of the pre-allocated stock they expect to receive? I hope there aren't issues with the UK rollout as I think its an interesting product. If you go to Roku.com/uk and go to the link for view products then it now has live links to 'Buy now' on Amazon and this previously wasn't a live link and if I recall said available soon, so hopefully its merely a stock issue.

Remember the Roku box does not allow any manual Network settings, so if you wanted to watch Netflix USA you would have to change your DNS at the router, rather than just the device

Why that a bad thing the roku was developed for Netflix it has channel of course with instant watch list it also has a channel called neflix browser which you can not see on instant watch lists unless you search for them that includes the apps for Xbox and ps3

How is it otherwise? easy to use/navigate? Good to hear that they are finally shipping in the UK. Roku's twitter feed shows them repsonding to question about them missing from Amazon and the generic response seems to be they are working with Amazon to resolve it, but not indication of what exactly the issue is/was, although I saw a post a few weeks ago that the £50 model in the UK was on back order in the States, so I can only assume they reason it disappeared from Amazon was lack of stock?

Seems to work ok and still offers Amazon and Hulu Plus but wont work from UK on these. No sign of Lovefilm or any content like I Player on it. Netflix works fine. Originally ordered the £49 version from Amazon but they sent me £99 one and said would charge the same price as barcode error when dispatched ! Also got Apple TV and must admit runs bit smoother than the Roku and works well for Nefflix

That's good that you got the expensive model for the same price as the lower end model! You did well there, got to love Amazon.

Interesting that you say Apple TV works smoother for Netflix. I had read that the version on the Roku is similar to the consoles which I was hoping wouldn't be the case as they are a pain to navigate. Is that the case? Is it really worth me paying nearly £100 for the Apple TV when the cheapest Roku will be available for just shy of £50?

Also Apple TV seems to have run into supply issues of its own. Amazon are saying 1-2 months for dispatch and my local Argos stores have no stock either.

It seems the arrival of Netflix is really accelerating the sales of these streaming devices in the UK and at the moment retailers are struggling to keep up with the demand.

There's lots on the Roku but would have liked some UK style content such as 4od, IPlayer, Lovefilm etc. Maybe it's early days yet for Roku this side of the pond.

The overall feel and finish of the Apple is nicer and it works well for Netflix. The Roku takes a minute or so to do anything when first used and has felt a bit glitchy sometimes. The £99 Roku has advantage of AV output but no optical connection if feeding audio system for radio against just HDMI and optical output on Apple. Also found the wireless connection better on the Apple.

Got a feeling that streaming is the future as more people get reliable broadband and can see SKY finding life a bit harder too. Exciting times

I've received mine now as well.

The build quality of the receiver and remote both seem excellent. Set up is straightforward, and to ensure the best mbs speed I can get I used ethernet extension plugs to allow a wired ethernet connection to the box under my Sony TV. My tv can only receive 720p, but it's good to know that this box is capable of 1080p when I upgrade the tv. Picture quality is very good on Netflix, and is an improvement over the netflix picture I previously got using my Wii wirelessly (Wired is not an easy option on the Wii).

However then we come to the Elephant in the room, which is Netflix is really the only Channel available now that I can see being used for extensive viewing. This product will live or die on the channels it can offer in future. I purchased it knowing that Netflix was really the only popular channel on there, taking into account I can always use it in future to upgrade a bedroom tv, but if it wants to be the preferred receiver in the living room, far more channels are needed.

I have taken a look at the Private Channels, but the ones that do look worth downloading just produce a "not available in your area" error message when I attempt to add them. For some this is obviously due to content rights restrictions, but for otheres it seems a strange decision. Both Justintv, and Filmon are freely available as apps on UK Itunes to use here in the uk, but these channels both produce the error message above when I attempt to add them to the Roku. Surely if Apple allows them to be used in the UK, Roku could?

I've just called Roku and suggested they enter into negotiations with the Beeb, Channel 4, ITV and Channel 5 pretty damn fast.

What did they say? Do we know if these are the kind of services they are likely to secure?

I would stick with my Xbox 360 but the damn thing is a bit noisy for TV. Also currently missing iPlayer but it does support 4OD and Demand 5 applications.

The private channels are not controlled by Roku, but rather by the people who made them. Some people just haven't updated their private channel to work in the UK yet, or don't even realize they need to.

edit: the thing to understand with the Roku is that anyone can download the SDK any make their own private channel. The BBC could make an iplayer channel if they wanted... no need to work out a deal with Roku or anything.

Yes your right I know people who made channels from iPhone feeds but sometimes they get blocked from added them like the YouTube I've got was unofficial private channel roku was told by google to block people add it but once you have got it in your channel list roku can't take it off
