edit: the thing to understand with the Roku is that anyone can download the SDK any make their own private channel. The BBC could make an iplayer channel if they wanted... no need to work out a deal with Roku or anything.”

Many thanks for the information, and I've done some more digging.
What Roku have done is to set up new additional versions of the Private Channels Stores specific to the UK and Ireland, and to make the current Private Channel Store for US only. The owner / developer has to install their Private Channel specifically to the new UK and new Ireland Channel Stores before we are allowed to add them.

Using a new Roku 2 here in the UK but got no sign of BBC Iplayer in my channel store. Contacted Roku but they haven't a clue ! How do you set up a Uk channel store. Had the unit a week but had registered in January before unit was released.

Mine arrived this week and just works. I saw on the Roku forums that only the Roku2 units bought from amazon.co.uk are UK units. Is that where you got it from?

Yes it was from Amazon UK last week and Roku 2. Might have to try reset if not or reregister with another account.

great to see BBC iPlayer added, I hope that means they are negotiating to add ITV, 4OD and Demand Five, as i said before, if they can pull that off, them this would be awesome little box.

OK I've done a hard reset and still can't get iPlayer in the channel store. I'm only seeing US based channels - some of these like Netflix work OK but it's pretty useless.

For those who have iPlayer working - what is your model number as reported by Settings->About? Mine says 3100X and I'm worried the box thinks it's a US version.

Just as a follow-up, in a spirit of scientific inquiry I hooked up the Roku to my TV via the composiite video output rather than HDMI. I cam switch my TV between PAL and NTSC and this thing is definitely putting out NTSC.

So I'm convinced this is a US box, despite coming from Amazon UK complete with a UK power adapter and the EU mandated blurb in the documentation.

I feel a mildly shouty email to Amazon coming on - anyone else in the same boat?

Afraid not. Ordered mine last Tuesday and got it Wednesday and it's a UK Roku.

Well I'm going to feel quite victimised if it's just me. Anyway, after a lot of faffing I finally got a sensible response from Roku UK support:

I'm sure Amazon will be fine with the return but it's a pain. Anyway, for anyone else not seeing iPlayer or any other UK-specific channels on their brand new Roku, check the model number via Settings->About. If it reports 3100X you're out of luck.

My Roku is a UK model number 3100X running the UK firmware 4.3 and has iPlayer on it.

Just to finish off this saga in case anyone else comes across the same problem as me...

I got my replacement unit from Amazon today and it had the same problem (despite me deleting my existing Roku account and starting from scratch).

Eventually Roku UK support came to the conclusion they would need to set up a UK account for me (no idea why the account I set up myself wouldn't be a UK account as my address and credit card are in the UK and I did the setup from a UK IP address).

Anyway, after resetting the player and linking it to this new account I'm all set. So it looks like that first reply I got from UK support was wrong - the 3100X doesn't necessarily mean it's a US box. It all seems to depend on your Roku account - and if Roku thinks you're not in the UK when you set up your account you're stuffed. Dodgy IP geolocation database perhaps?

It comes with a composite cable, so you will be able use that, if your CRT TV supports it.
