He left some time ago and it's been common knowledge. He's moved to South Africa.
Hes been in the titles though till recently so there was hope
i do not read the reality press so not common knowledge for me
i asked a few of my avid eggheads friends just now in debenhams changing room and no one knew he had gone for good or even the young girls on the room door
Shame though as he was a good knowledgeable egghead, and quirky
His solo show he did was not good though, just a boring format

Cj was not in the titles on make me an egghead, so must be him going then
Lisa was put in her place haha, shes not an egghead and does not deserve the honour
The guy who won was knowledgeable and geeky, just like an egghead, he would make a good egghead
I was sure I'd seen him on something recently and when watching Only Connect it clicked - I think he was on the last series. I thought he would 'fit' with the Eggheads better than the one who lost - he just seemed a bit too normal and nice

Wacky hats is very much Marianne's schtick. (Although I don't think Mastermind allowed her to wear one.)

Thought it was meant to be an egg cosy or tea cosy. Then I have been told it is a hat as worn in Nepal.

If the guy who lost yesterday was on todays show he'd have won easily.

The standard today is terrible, can't believe these 2 have come through any kind of serious selection process.

I have to admit it they both improved as the show went on. Could still have done without the hat though

There are two separate leader boards, for ladies and gents.

Has wacky hat woman been on Only Connect?
She has indeed.

So they are looking for one woman and one man then with the leaderboard
The hat woman was better in the last round but both started off poor, the other woman just seemed to be a good guesser and she thought crocs lived in trees
Get rid of the hat, rude to wear one indoors, get some manners dear
She a Glastonbury dropout and a vegan, too whacky, no to her

As mentioned above, yes she was on OC before and I think also that show that was based on Boggle. I was surprised she was so nervous when she has been on TV before but I suspect she is just really keen on being an Egghead.

I saw her a little while ago at a big pub quiz that also included Kevin and Pat. I don't remember them actually being there together (although Kevin and Pat were) but she presumably knows them. Her comment about Dave also made it sound like she knows him.

People with no personality, or poor personality, often resort to hats. . .

I wouldn't be surprised if Marianne wins the female Egghead gig. I can see the producers absolutely lapping up the hat thing.

The problem I have with the wacky hat person was that she didn't come across very well on camera. A bit awkward, failing to make eye contact. I'm surprised since I would have thought they would have some sort of audition process, their general knowledge being only part of what makes for an Egghead personality.
No doubting her ability but I don't think I would want to watch her on a regular basis.

I agree. She didn't seem to ease into the whole thing like the 2 guys yesterday. The other female was fine, but clearly wasn't as good. I fear that Marianne will win though. Being a winner of mastermind and all, I can't see many others matching up to her, mainly because i'm guessing if there were many applicants that had a reputation for winning other shows like both guys yesterday, she would of been pitched against one of them.
If she wins, surely the hat goes....right?

Thanks for the answer

Will Lisa ever get chosen to help ?

Too much emphasis is going to be on the quick fire round.

You don't need a scintillating personality for Eggheads. Having a supreme general knowledge is enough.

Agree with this - Kevin and Pat are both pretty quiet on the personality stakes - but are both phenomenal Eggheads.

Going by the episodes so far the casting formula seems to be "usual suspect" who we've seen on loads of other shows against slightly more ordinary contender (!) whose telly CV is a good deal thinner (albeit one of them has been a Mastermind winner).

I'm sure there will be ladies of equivalent calibre to her in future shows, they'll just meet up in the knockout rounds.

If she wins, surely the hat goes....right?
I doubt very much it would

Well, I agree that they don't need to be scintillating. My puzzlement was due to the fact that even the multitude of normal quiz show contestants go through an audition process, judging from what I've read on other threads, and I presume that is to ensure they speak up and can connect with the host. Be good on camera.
Marianne mumbled, she sat slumped forward in her chair and I even wondered if she might be on the autistic spectrum. It was an uneasy experience watching her. My husband felt the same.

I though the quickfire round said much more about the contestant's general knowledge range and ability than the traditional multiple choice format.

By my personal benchmark of 6 - 7 correctly answered questions in each Mastermind general knowledge round, I thought the questions were pretty tough - I scored only 6 against Marianne's 10 or so - which tells me that just based upon that round, the question standard was pretty high, not too far shy of Mastermind; or of course I could just have had a tough day!

Anyone else think the quickfire round was reasonably difficult?
