Today, it cost the winner the time to answer another question which could make a lot of difference at the end of the day ”

When I was watching it I was thinking to myself that Lisa was being incredibly vocal today when Jeremy was talking to the Eggheads, almost like she was trying to encourage one of the contestants to pick her and lo and behold the chap did.

No idea why anyone would pick her ahead of Barry and she proved that she was completely useless in the final.

I kind of agree regarding Chris. If I was playing, I wouldn't pick him ahead of Kevin, Pat and Barry, but if one or two of those aren't in the line up I would absolutely have him.

Ian Bayley has been toppled!
He won't be happy about that!

The chap who won today won all three rounds but I don't actually think he was the best quizer. He seemed to have easy questions and he was lucky with his guesses.

Are Eggheads looking for a young male quizzer ????????????

That 3rd egghead was the key that gave him that extra point over Ian, which itself was gained by guesses in the food and drink round.

I thought he was quite fortunate on some of the rounds.

And I also thought maybe they are looking for a younger male quizzer.....

Did anyone see yesterday's episode? Emma was really poor and Frankie looked like she could be a serious threat to be the new female egghead. She seemed to have a very good, broad spectrum of knowledge and even got all her sport questions right (which seems to be a bogey subject for the women on the show).

I agree with some of the comments about Gary from the day before in that he certainly seemed to have some easy questions in the final two minute round. When I can get close to the score the contestant gets I know they're not the most tricky! He also appeared to be from the Daphne school of being an incredibly good/lucky guesser! Even though he tops the leader board I would still back Ian Bayley to beat him.

I too thought Gary's final set of questions were on the easy side - I'm pretty sure I got all of them, including the ones he got wrong, and I'm certainly no Egghead. Just luck of the draw perhaps.

Emma looked completely out of her depth. Not sure what she was doing there tbh.

However Frankie seemed to have very good all round knowledge and would IMO make a good addition to the line-up. Certainly more engaging than silly hat woman at any rate.

Often it seems one of the qualities of successful quizzers seems to be the ability to make good or lucky guesses so I wouldn't hold that against Gary.

As to the final two minute round being easy questions well "easy questions" is rather a subjective concept thought I suppose it usually means "something I can answer and expect to know as well". However, some people have a lot problems with questions I have considered easy. (It might be a better comparison to use the same set of questions for the final round but that would soon become boring.)

As Magnus Magnusson said many years ago, "an easy question is one you know the answer to"

The thing is in the unlikely event of my being on the show and even more unlikely event of getting the third choice I might consider Dave because, largely useless though he is, the guy does know a fair amount about sport and popular music. So given my weaknesses if one of the three obvious choices is missing I might choose him rather than Lisa who tends to know the stuff I know anyway. As usual I don't really see the point of Judith.

Lisa has been picked and she was useless.

I agree. I liked Frankie. I think she would fit right in with the Eggs.

Top score yesterday.

LIsa and Dave should have been made to enter this competition to keep their places.

The minimum requirement should be top 4.

Flaw in this format is that the general knowledge questions in the final round are too easy. I suspect the top 4 are likely to be those that started at 9 points ie won all 3 rounds. With the calibre of contestants varying so much, 2 strong contestants are likely to thwart each other from getting through.

Bah. Another 'HR' person who can't pronounce 'HR' properly. I despair.

There are too many people today who say 'Haitch', unfortunately.
I don't find this so annoying though as the increasing number of people using the glottal stop on every word to which is could be applied - it's terrible.

I think that the 'Music' category should be renamed Popular Music as I am sure that over ninety percent of the questions very rarely feature Classical musical or similar.
Personally, I hate the Music round as I know practically nothing about this genre.

Yep - think a few of these could beat either Lisa or Dave

Still can't understand people ignoring Chris - yes, he has gaps in Sport/TV etc but for obscure things you can't beat him (unless you're Pat or Kevin of course...). The question the other day about Teetotum for instance - as soon as the contestant went to him you could see he knew it.

If I were in that position my order of selection would be:

Kevin/Pat as first choices
Chris/Barry as next choices
Dave as next choice - he is very good on sport/music/TV etc
Judith - she's pretty hot on some artsy/history/geography stuff actually
Lisa - I think she's the weakest

Chris has only been picked once, and Lisa has even been picked one more time than him. That's interesting.
We don't really see Judith on many subjects at the moment except sport, tv, music or geography but she's done well on the geography rounds for sure. I do love Judith though, so I want her to win on any subject.

I agree. If you are good on sport you don't need him for sports questions. He is good on history, geography, old films or tv, classical music, politics, food & drink and transport !!

A bit of a surprise yesterday with David Edwards getting eliminated, but both Pat and Kevin couldn't help him out when they were called on and unbelievably, a history question that Kevin didn't know!

I liked Nicki (the blind girl) who was on the day before, but I still think Frankie is the one to beat out of the women.

The problem with this format of choosing an egghead is that you don't know whether the egghead is really trying to help, for whatever reason. Many of these contestants are regulars on the quiz circuits and even eggheads are only human and may for some reason not like someone. Yesterday neither Kevin nor Pat were any help, what are the chances of that even allowing for the fact that the questions seem to be at a significantly more difficult level than regular Eggheads.

I hadn't thought of that at all to be honest, but you might have a point. When you think about it, when does Kevin not know a History question....?

Conspiracy theories or what ...

And James (he was so good, just sitting quietly under the desk) - but I agree, I definitely think of the women Frankie is the one to beat so far.

The men, it's a bit closer.
