They're actually told to talk about their answers like that.
It could have been a 30 minute show had the explanations to every answer been cut.

It's just dragging what should be a 30 minute programme into 45 minutes.

Doubt they were getting fed up of Ian as they've been on teams with him in the past.

I had a horrible feeling for a minute that the dreaded Lisa was going to cock it up for Steve. Her waffling about Clement IV being a French Pope (she got that bit right) might veer her towards Robert Grossteste might have tipped Steve that way if she'd carried on - she obviously was totally unaware that Grossteste was English. She should have just shut up.

Steve's hand gestures to Ian when he guessed correctly.

I can't tell who was more annoying - long answer Ian or grumpy Steve. Both perfect Eggheads!

Well done to Steve.

Must admit that despite having 2 History degrees I'd never heard of him.......

Looking on Wiki he appears to be an interesting chap.......

All of the eggheads guess if they don't know the answer, or use logic to get to the most likely answer if you prefer putting it that way.

Chris is weaker at this than the others, he often seems to jump in with an answer without giving it much thought.

There's no doubting he's very strong in areas that interest him but, as I've posted before, he doesn't seem to have any time for certain subjects and shows absolutely no inclination to try and improve in them.

He's my favourite egghead too btw
BIB. Yes I have seen this. If all the Eggheads were like Kevin, the contestants would never win.

Ian loves the sound of his own voice. The look on Kevins face says it all. Even he thinks Ians over elaborated answers are too much.

Oh christ now Pat is doing an Ian.
Pat does ramble on even when he does know the answer

Obvious. Far too easy. You would even think they wanted Steve to win

I am surprised how often the Eggheads are saying they don't know the answer.
To be fair, the questions are a lot harder than normal. Far too hard for Dave and Lisa anyway.

Steve's false modesty was more annonying than Ian's long answers..

- Naughty ....

But I have to admit my heart was in my mouth with the final question - I guessed Roger Bacon but I knew very well that neither Dave or Lisa would know the answer..

Think I'm glad Steve won - but sometimes his mock humbleness was almost as irritating as Ian's rambling trying-to-be-Egghead-like answers.

If Ian becomes an egghead he'll become known for his story's.
'Irritating Ian' perhaps
That would have been a more accurate name than 'Tremendous Knowledge' Dave....

He could also have been a more long-winded 'Information Overload' Ian - which would have suited the long-winded answers

Both were irritating tits IMHO. Ian was tedious in extremis and so often, after all his ramblings and analyses he got things wrong (how I laughed). Yes, of the two I am glad he didn't get through.

Of course 'ignorant' Jeremy is always impressed by someone else's knowledge.

Who do people favour for the second women's semifinal today? Nicki vs Beth if I remember correctly.

I would love Nicki to win (and win the whole thing too), and not just for the "minority" angle (though obviously that would be pretty terrific), but because she genuinely seems a lovely lady and is a good quizzer too.

Why can't they have a woman vs a man in the semis or finals? I understand the whole point is to have a new man and a new woman join the show but who's to say one of the female contestants can't beat a male contestant.

I too would really live Nicki to win - but my money's on The Vicar of Dibley as she was christened up thread a couple of days ago. Have to confess I have no recollection of Beth at all

Is it me or have the questions been quite one sided on this programme, ie someone gets much easier questions than another?

I haven't really noticed that. The questions in the quickfire rounds at the end have been largely pretty easy in my opinion with reaction time and calmness under pressure being the important things. In the main rounds, the questions seem to be the usual Eggheads standard across the board, maybe a bit easier than normal overall but with a few real toughies throw in.

Non Ian Bayley answer : it's you !

Ian irritated the hell out of me with all his ramblings, both in the first round and in last nights semi final. He had me yelling "oh FFS just answer the bloody question!" At the screen.......

We KNOW you are a smart arse, you don't need to keep droning on about your logic!

I think he thought he had this all sewn up, and I'm so glad the other chap won - the look on Ian's face as he was congratulating him was a classic!
