I think when they are in the normal competition, they are as much on the spot as they are here. They all obviously have their specialist subjects, and a pretty wide general knowledge and can probably make a reasonable guess at most questions - but put them on the spot on a subject they don't know well, and without the usual thinking time, and when it's important to the contestant that they are honest, I can understand their reluctance to give a definitive answer.

I doubt very much that they will do it this way again - the Eggs haven't looked particularly good in it, and it must be demoralising to see that Kevin and Pat/Barry were the firm favourites of all the contestants. It really showed the Eggs (and the producers) which of them the viewers rate as assistants.
Of course in normal Egg heads , some of them don't get to answer some of the questions asked on here. For example Kevin and Pat rarely get sport questions, it's always poor Judith or Chris.

If I was ever to go on Eggheads (as if) - I'd definitely now be thinking that Sport could be a good choice for Pat or Kevin as on the evidence of this series, both could be beatable on it...

Dave and Barry always seem the strongest on Sport, then Kevin and Pat are fairly similar and Lisa, Chris and Judith always seem to struggle with it.

I haven't really got any preference between the 2 women finalists tonight, but of the men I would like to see Steve win.

He seemed really surprised to beat Ian in the semi-final - plus he's promised his son a Dog if he wins.....

I like both the ladies so either would be fine.

I don't want Steve to win, that self-deprecation just seemed fake to me and a tactic to take the blame away if he lost against Ian, it really annoyed me.

I think both women are horrendous.I fear one of them will be the winner.

Have to admit a lot of the reason I want Steve to win is because I really don't want Gerard to.....

Of the final 4 I hoped the one who lost to Gerard would win it - he seemed quite nice really - all the others have annoyances....

I suppose that's part of the human condition really. We all have our own annoyances, its just that the Eggheads' little foibles are there for us all to see, five days a week!

Have to say though, that I'm enjoying Eggheads so much more now without Daphne and CJ. Now they were annoying. Surely no new Egg can be that bad.......can they?

It has been very odd - I can recall Judith when she was picked being certain and the same with Chris on a couple of questions, but Kevin and Pat in particular have both been very off their game.

As somebody said upthread it must be quite demoralising to be Lisa/Dave/Judith and even Chris, seeing Kevin and Pat getting picked first each time. Maybe when they next need a new Egghead they should be dished out randomly once the head to heads are over rather than letting the contestant choose as each round finishes.
I totally agree. They all have their strong subjects and we have had the winners of the early rounds picking who they perceive to be the better Eggheads

It'll be interesting to see how the final is handled, will it be straight general knowledge head to heads for the Male & Females? With 15 minutes of back patting at the end?

Do they often have maths questions like that? Seemed a bit unfair to get me

Yep I thought that too, fairly easy question to work out given the time.
