I doubt many people would reply if they had hundreds of tweets a day from fans!

My experience of Twitter is that a lot of people's questions don't deserve an answer - I got sick of people asking other skaters whether Dan would skate this week, or why Colin wasn't doing DOI anymore. I'm impressed these people are as polite as they are to be honest!

I think it is something they should expect if they are on Twitter, its goes with being a celebrity . Basic good manners cost nothing and these people pay their wages . If there were no fans there would be no job .

I think Dan gets the balance right though - as do others - when loads of people sent him messages of support he said they meant a lot to him. If he sat and wrote to every single person who tweeted him, I bet he would be criticised for not having anything better to do with his time. He can't win!

I don't think the older pros are especially worse at replying either, I got a pretty quick reply from Frankie a few days ago which made my day.

Do you have any comprehension of how many followers some people have on twitter. The celebs and pro skaters all large numbers of followers and are getting a large numbers of tweets Dan for example had nearly 60 tweets in a very short space of time after he tweeted about skating tomorrow. It is difficult to respond to that level of people sending you messages.

Also he does not have all day to spend replying to people he has been undergoing physio, he has still been trying to train he will have had camera blocking etc. As well as trying to find some time for himself.

How do you figure we pay their wages. Its ITV that pay them and I don't think the money from the phone votes go to the skaters someone.

I also don't think just because they are on twitter they should expect it. Just because skaters have performed in DOI together does not mean they keep in touch outwith the show nor can they answer why decisions have been made by production so yes its not fair to ask them those questions and again asking other skaters about whether Dan would be in or not seems a bit silly as they wouldn't know the ins and outs of what was going on with his physio etc. Even Dan himself didn't know whether he was going to make it and that was in a radio interview he did on Friday.

No one on twitter is obliged to reply to anyone whether they are a celeb or not.

Sean, Jodeyne, Nina and Brianne are probably the ones who answer their tweeters the most. I have also had replies from Katie and as soon as I followed Sean he followed me back. tweeted Matt Evers a few times but never had an answer!

Are you saying that you think they should reply to every tweet they receive? That seems totally unrealistic to me. Would you include the likes of Lady Gaga too with her millions of followers?

Matts probably the only one that of the pro skaters that hasnt replied to me along with Colin, but then that doesnt surprise me.

I can't comment re Twitter, but Colin is/was very interactive with his fanbase via Facebook, more so when DOI was active last series. He comes across as very polite and sociable to his fans on there.

I don't consider myself a Colin fan but he seems pretty good at answering messages. Maybe he just ignores ones that he doesn't like?

I'm disapointed that people on here seem to have the knives out for Matt E for some reason - he doesn't seem especially worse at replying to fans than anyone else from what I've seen. I also met him after a show at Blackpool last year and he was extremely friendly, and happy to sign a programme for me.

I've tweeted Matt E before and never had any response from him what I tend to find is he has a very select few he responds to which is wrong in a way because it does end up upsetting other fans. I don't have the knives out for him but he was quite rude on facebook about the subject when someone basically did question him for ignoring their friend constantly on twitter and while yes he had every right to reply and defend himself I did find the response a bit abrasive and a bit untruthful because he is guilty of not replying to fans or only replying to a few even when the messages have not been offensive in any way.

Its the same with Colin I have found he too only replies to a select group of fans as well. I out of curiosity looked in on his twitcam last Sunday and despite getting lots of messages from lots of different people there were only 2 or 3people he kept focusing on which was unfair to all the others that were asking him questions.

Most of the others do try to respond to as many as possible and Sean is one of the best for responding.

As I say though the amount of tweets some of them get does make it more difficult for them to respond to everyone individually.

ITV pay their wages for their skills and time committment to the show. They are paid to turn up to rehearsals and skate on Sunday nights. They are expected to do a certain amount of promotion, and responding to individual tweets goes above and beyond that.

It isn't "basic good manners" to respond to every tweet. It is up to people if they wish to follow a celeb, or send them a message. Anyone tweeting a celeb with the expectation they deserve a reply is deluded. It takes time to reply to tweets, and if you get hundreds, it could take hours. Any pro who was known to reply a lot, would inevitably end up with even more tweets, so it would just compound the problem.

I don't think it's healthy for anyone in the public eye to spend more than the odd few minutes reading and replying to tweets. It's one step away from googling yourself.

How she will skate is irrelevant as long as she has a fan base out there, they'll vote for her. If she doesn't she could skate like Witt and she'd still go out.

If people didn't watch there would be no show as ITV wouldn't put on the show a second time. If there's no show there would be no advertising therefore no money . So yes the fact that people watch means they get paid .AndI'm sorry but to ignore people is rude !!!

I'm surprised anyone expects celebs, whether they are ice professionals, actors or pop stars to reply to tweets from members of the public. As far as I'm concerned, celebs and authors for that matter, use Twitter for advertising themselves not as a correspondence round robin.

Totally agree. For us "ordinary"people, when we finish work we are glad to get home, go to the pub, watch a film, visit friends read a book etc.
Im shocked that anyone would think that any celeb needs to be on twitter answering questions.

Oh for goodness sake! What do you mean celebs and members of the public they're nothing special just human beings like the rest of us .

They don't need to be, but seeing as most of them spend a lot of their time on there then they could at least acknowledge the young people who seem to worship them.

Dan's the man....thank goodness he's got a more decent celeb this year in Jennifer (and may stay the distance this year too)!! Won't have to put up with sloppy behaviour from her unlike last year!!
