.. and I'm finding it much better than I expected.

I had already listened to each song on the internet and was pretty underwhelmed, but I'm now finding the songs are'nt as lacklustre as they first sounded.

I would agree with the people who describe it more as a full piece rather than judging by individual songs.

I bought it fairly recently too. My favourite songs are Government Hooker, Americano, Heavy Metal Lover, You & I and Sheisse.

It's a shame the sheepy X-Factor watching "general music buying public" wotsits (Tongue firmly in cheek - no offence meant to anyone) aren't willing to give it a chance, it's a much more solid effort than The Fame and easily the best pop album of 2011.

It's a grower, not a show-er a la TF/M.

She released all the wrong singles but saying that I think the only real radio friendly song on there is Heavy Metal Lover. Its an album of no radio hits but its a great album imho.

Best tracks on the album for me (in order)

1. Scheiße
2. Heavy Metal Lover
3. Government Hooker
4. The Edge Of Glory
5. Marry The Night
6. Americano

Hair, Black Jesus (Amen Fashion), Bloody Mary, Fashion Of His Love, Born This Way and Judas are also great. The only tracks I usually skip are Electric Chapel and Bad Kids. Solid album all round though.

Bloody Mary, Highway Unicorn, Bad Kids and Electric Chapel have my attention atm
Americano is one of my favourites.
It's grown on me slightly so we shall see haha

I quite like the occasions that the album threatens to enter 'techno breakdown' haha. I thought The Fame was good at the time but with a little too much filler. Found the bonus songs especially pointless.

The only songs I enjoy on the album are Marry The Night and Heavy Metal Lover. Couldn't get into the other songs.

If_U_Seek_Amy- that's a joke right? Modern day Thriller? lmao

I bought it the week it came out. It's really good. I like nearly every song on it except You & I and The Queen. It's not really an "instant hit" album like The Fame/Monster was but it's still a great album.

I found it very "instant" so must be the only one. Anyway it is a great album. I played it to death last summer and it was very much my soundtrack for nights out during that period Heavy Metal Lover is amazing.

The thing is, The Fame was clearly a watered down album with filler and catchy, commercial single material scattered all over it with a generic theme loosely based around the songs, or unrelated. The Fame Monster was an EP of singles, 100% commercial stuff with a darker edge - it's well documented that disjointed lyrics from female performers get hype and popularity. Gaga used this to her advantage and was allowed a little more freedom on the album, whilst keeping it very commercial.

Having made 2 albums worth of singles material, neither of them really added up as albums, they could be put on any CD and still work as standalone singles or tracks.

Born This Way is almost like a story. It starts with birth, ends in death and there's a bunch of stuff in the middle that addresses the struggles of life. The first song is an autobiography for crying out loud.

The songs on there are not intended to be singles material, but to reference eachother and work alongside eachother to develop a whole body of work that is to be listened to in its entirety. For example, "Judas" and "The Queen" would probably be misunderstood on their own, as it's out of context. But in the album, they just work to tell the story.

Listening to it in the wrong order or song-by-song missing a few out is like taking the chapters of a book, jumbling them up and saying it doesn't make sense and is rubbish because of it. It's a very clever body of work. References to Madonna, Marilyn, Whitney etc are probably slightly intentional as it's almost the story of her life and her expressing how she felt throughout - she wanted to be up there with those women in some way, on some scale, but couldn't just write a song "I wish I was whitney, I wish I was Britney, Maybe not Christina, Madge Definitely" because it would've been pointless and without artistic merit.

Bit of a rant there.

I love this album. I've had it since release and loved it instantly. I still can't get enough of Schisse, Hair and Heavy Metal Lover.

Just a shame about the piss poor handling of singles and videos.

I definitely found it a grower.

I liked it enough to buy it but there wasn't that instant love for it like when I first listened to The Fame Monster. It's grown on me since though and I now like it as much as her other albums. As an album it seems more consistent than The Fame/The Fame Monster which had a lot of hit singles/single worthy songs but more filler.

That being said she hasn't yet topped Bad Romance for me.

Well she had so much media attention and so many silly attention seeking moments that by the time it came out and a fair while post release I wanted her to disappear, rather than listen to her voice. Like I said, I listened to the songs anyway, individually, and did'nt like them really. I find them better as a full album though.

Sometimes she just cant help but show how fake she's being.
eg. "God bless America and God bless the gays!" ... so patronizing.
