Why would you need a stylus? Resistive touch screens are an old technology that worked best with a stylus. Only cheap fakes and knock offs use resistive screens these days. |

Anyone out there who is looking for a god 7 inch tablet totally has to go for a playbook. Still can get it for 169 from currys and pc world. Not sure if the prices will rise again, but at this price, you guys gotta go snap it up.
I was also looking at the cheap as chips android tabs all over the net, amazon, ebay etc and truth is, their build quality and even user experience have nothing on the playbook. The playbook has the best build quality that I have seen on a tab, really is awesome. Stereo sound as well. The screen is buttery smooth and very sharp/colourful. Even with the lack of apps I am not disappointed in the slightest. A few weeks on and it;s still a joy to use. Throw iplayer or any of the other on demand tv services at it, and it handles it all over a good wifi connection. If you have a smart phone with data that allows you to use it as a wifi hotspot, you can use the internet from the phone on the playbook. I tried it yesterday, took it out for the first time and tethered it with my desire hd, on three, unlimited data. Worked really well!! No nonsense, connected first time and off I went. OS 2.0 is imminent. The 21st of Feb has been quoted by various sources so if true it could well drop by tomorrow. Already the app world is said to be populated with some 1500 Android apps and there are over 6000 developers on board too. So it fills me with hope that we will get a good selection of apps coming. But as I said, even without the apps, there is plenty you can still do. The PB is not like an ipad where it cannot display flash sites and needs apps in order to get the site to get some functionality. The PB will just display everything out there as you see on your laptop or pc. I've never had any crashes or lagging, force closing issues yet. Many android OS builds still have issues in certain areas and will be more so apparent on a cheap Android tab. My advice, go for the playbook, for a little more than the 110-120 pound cheap chinese tabs out there, you will get a solid product with the best OS on a tablet in terms of speed, reliability, security and all round performance. |

According to this: http://www.engadget.com/2012/02/17/b...february-21st/ OS 2.0 will be released at 4.01am on the 21st. Assuming that time is East Cost US then that means 9:01am in the UK. if it's West Coast time then it will be midday. |

I managed to play on both the iPad and Playbook and was seriously impressed with the Playbook. It's the weight of the iPad that puts me off - and not loading anything Flash related is a big turn off. I might now go out tonight and get me a Playbook

Not yet! It was out of stock everywhere!
http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/blackb...47929-pdt.html It might be worth looking at the 32GB as it's only £30 more. I'd also recommend buying the official folding case/stand as the case that comes with the PB is fairly useless. |

), causing RIM to give it repeated price cuts until it reached its current low price. It should hopefully sell more now that it is so cheap, but RIM has lost an absolute tonne of money on it, and continues to lose money on it due to now selling it at such a loss.Still, I can see why RIM stuck with it, rather than just discontinue it like HP did with its failed entry into the tablet market - HP can get by without its mobile arm, despite the massive loss, as that was just one part of HP. But RIM really needs the PlayBook & the BlackBerry as that's all it really has... It had to go "all in" and push on with the PlayBook in the hope it would eventually help turn around the company's current decline... |

Don't think it's a failure, yep was overpriced, as is the ipad2, I think the price cuts are due to a new larger screen coming out this year as well.
Tricky one as wife has ipad2, if I had the money at time of both being priced at the same price which would I buy. Mmmmh thinking about it

Yep I wanted a 32gb one really so I could ftp more stuff to it, though as there's no sd slot or micro slot if you can afford the 64gb may as well get it.

No, the repeated price cuts have been due to its absolutely appalling sales. It has definitely been a failure, and RIM has lost a huge amount of money on it.

I think RIM need a bit of an advertising blitz with the Playbook. At the end of the day, I think tablets are still in the stage of being a 'toy' or 'gadget' and I'm not sure this is the market the Playbook is targeted at. But for £169, more people should be buying this - myself included (I'm just in two minds still...)

![]() The name was also a problem. In the US, "playbook" is a common enough term in business but in the rest of the world it makes it sound like a games machine. With the release of 2.0 and the price reductions, it looks like they are getting it right - but only time will tell if it's too late. |
