The Xtra Factor?
It is shown straight after the main show normally or sometimes an hour after, and is hosted by ben Sheppard and basically shows more behind the scenes footage and extra information than the main show! I really like it as you get to know the contestants better and it is a lot more informal. I think it is repeated on ITV2 during the week but i am not sure of the times!
Why isnt there a weekly show with them rehearsing á la Pop Idol 1. Those shows gave a real indication of who was good etc. and you got to see a bit more of their personalities.
i think the Xtra Factor is the worst BBLB minime show yet. (apart from the Celebrity in the jungle one with the awful Durden-Smith)

Well i usually miss xtra factor on the saturday, but the main show on itv1 and the xtra factor is usually shown on itv2 on sunday morning from 9.30am onwards 
and it is usually shown later in the week but i'm not sure of the times for them

The Xtra Factor:Xcess All Areas is on tomorrow at 9pm ITV2 and the announcer said we would get a preview of the songs they are singing on Saturday.
Good job I had ITV2 on when they said this or I would have completely missed it.

Now we're at the voting stage, The Xtra Factor will now take on a different (and hopefully better) role, similar to Pop Idol 2 by the looks of it. In addition to the Friday "Xcess All Areas" show, there are also two shows on Saturday.
The first one is between the two ITV1 shows (but not until Saturday Night Takeaway has finished), and presumably will be the usual "how did you think it went?" kind of thing, while the second is after the ITV1 results show, so that should be full of "just how gutted are you to have been voted off?".
For me, the beginning of the post-results ITV2 show was the best bit of Pop Idol 2, when the judges and presenters all stood on the set and talked about how it went, normally resulting in an argument between Cowell and Waterman. It was always frustrating when Kate Thornton had to bring it to an end so they could go to some pre-recorded featurette that we'd already seen on the earlier show.
Do we know if the first Saturday ITV1 show will actually be live? It wasn't in Pop Idol 2, nor was the first ITV2 show. I think they taped them on Wednesday afternoons, with inevitable press leakage (and massaging of the odds at the bookies). Obviously, the results shows were live, with all the lovely continuity issues that causes.

The shows on Saturday were always live. During the heats of Pop Idol 2 the Press were invited to watch each singer on a Wednesday perform in a rehearsal. This is why the ITV2 coverage was great as you could switch straight over after the Live ITV1 show and get instant reactions from the judges and the studio audience. I cant remember the Saturday shows on Pop Idol ever going out recorded, though I will probably be proved wrong.

Exactly. I alway enjoyed this part of PI as well. Will be interesting to see if XF do this, especially as it's been reported that Sharon & Simon aren't talking

but they were certainly intended to appear to be live, and it fooled me before I realised! They timed the recorded ITV2 show to follow the recorded ITV1 show to keep the illusion going. Then they all had to come back on the Saturday in the same clothes (or pretend they'd had a shower and changed or something) for the live results.
Now I think about it sensibly, the "final 12" shows couldn't have been recorded because there was a studio audience of hyped up nutters who'd be hard to find on a Wednesday afternoon. The "final 50" shows didn't have an audience (just the piano, the pianist with the dodgy hair whose name escapes me, and the judges), so they could be recorded. Since presumably there is going to be an audience for the X-Factor shows, they must be live throughout.
