Just watched this on catch up and I'm afraid Tony Gubba's voiceover remains the most cringeworthy thing on TV......what does he think he is doing ? .......worse than unfunny......embarrassing in an Alan Partridge kind of way....awful.

It wouldn't be the same with out him even though what he says is mostly pointless.

I wouldn't say he was ruining the show but he does get on my nerves, why do they need a voice over anyway they manage quite well on SCD without one!

If you don't like it turn down the volume, after all you've seen the dance and heard the music.

If ever there was an unnecessary commentary it is Evan Davis on Dragons Den.

I think it's to replicate real skating events where you would have such commentary. The viewers are to be given the impression that this is a serious contest rather than just a way of long-forgotten personalities getting back on screen!

Agree.....genuinely find this pointless recapping of what has clearly just happened annoying aswell.

Turning down the volume is not a great solution but it is nearly at that stage.

I can't say his voiceover has ever bothered me but I don't like how he seems to just make names up for a lot of the moves.

I think he's becoming a parody of himself now, which kind of lets him get away with it with me, although some of the remarks are still a bit "cringe".

Oh no....I love him and his commentary!!
It adds to the drama. His commentary of the moves, the dramatic slow motion and that music. Love it!!! I do be on the edge of my seat but its all because of the way they present it like its the biggest competition on earth! lol

Dammit, that man is so bland, I've made it a point never to find out his name, now you've spoiled it for me! Totally agree. His "Now it's time for Duncan Bannatyne to show his hand" really adds zero to the proceedings!

I can't say his voiceover has ever bothered me but I don't like how he seems to just make names up for a lot of the moves.
We've had a whole thread on this before - inventing new names of moves for the skaters a la Gubba and it was highly entertaining!

Don't tell me you've never heard of the Kentucky Fried Chicken step sequence or the Large Hadron Colldier lift

Agreed, though its become a joke in our house wondering what he will call each one! He has some pretty naff descriptions for the outfits (sorry "costumes"!) too...

It is interesting to see the slow mo action replays and I suppose they couldn't really show them without any sound.

I love how he can't even contain himself from laughing when it was time to mention the moves and scores after the classic Todd Carty mishap (especially from 2:33):

I agree. I find his commentary very annoying. It doesn't ruin the whole show for me, but it certainly ruins that part of it.

All this recapping... showing what's happened and what's still to come takes up sooo much time in DOI and XFactor and although the show started at 6.30 last night, by 7pm there had only been one celebrity skater on... and the show could have been finished in an hour if they just showed the skating and the voting!!!

And what about all these silly names for every move? Does the commentator make them up as he goes along?
