My 5.5 month Chocolate Labrador has just been spayed and the nurse noticed blood in urine after dog was recovering. They said it was probably from her operation and asked for a sample of urine to be taken in 3 days when they checked the wound was healing.
The vet said it was clear of blood and infection but the PH was high at 8.5.
The sample was taken first thing in the morning and was quite strong as she had not drunk water after 10pm the night before.
I think it may have been for the above reason but the Vet was very keen for her to start using Hills S/D diet that is canned and that will cost me about £30 per week.
I really think she was trying to frighten me and she definately gave me the hard sell.
I have so far stood my ground and refused to try her on the Hills S/D diet and she has given her antibiotics to rule out infection which the urine test said she did not have.
She wants to review this again in a weeks time.
What do you other forum dog owners think?
Am i being given the hard sell? What alternative treatments are there for a high PH in the urine that could possibly cause the formation of crystals in the urinary tract?
I am really annoyed with my vets practice as every time i go i end up getting sold something or other.
Xmas she had an upset stomach and the vet gave her 4 types of medications and it cost over £80 - i know she was beeter the next day but i'm sure they just gave my little girl more medication than she needed.
Time to seek a new practice maybe.
Advice appreciated please
