I'm getting one tomorrow

Does anyone else have one of these and are they good pets?

I used to - she was a lovely snake sadly missed.

Not the most interesting pet ever lol, but well behaved, easy to handle and ate defrosted, warmed mice with no problem.

She was an escape artist though

Worst time was when I moved house. Shut her in her vivarium in a bedroom but she still managed to disappear Found her in the bathroom coiled round a pipe. And she would NOT let go! Had to wait until she got cold to uncoil her then had to sit with her under my jumper trying to raise her body temperature.

royals are lovely snakes
my friend has one, they can be picky feeders - hers is very undersized for his age as he wouldn;t make the switch from mice to rats
he's finally done it though, so he's slowly being fattened up

the other thing they may have trouble with is shedding, monty has one bulging eye due to poor eye-cap shedding, he's due to have it removed soon as it's started to go a bit funny
another royal i knew at college, flex, had the same problem and had to have one of his eyes removed

it can happen with any snake though, i have a cali king and always check her skins for eye caps, just in case

Just a normal I rehomed from someone just over a year ago - he was small for his age as he was a problem feeder and had to be force fed by his previous owner. When I got him he weighed about 260g, he now weighs 880g and eats like a pig - he's not keen on rats so gets jumbo mice and gets excited around feeding day - the other week I was just putting his mouse in and he struck at it, missed and grabbed my wrist - little bugger hung on for 5 mins and tried to wrap round it, but I didn't want to force him to let go and hurt him.

The only time I had a feeding problem with him was when I changed his substrate from aspen to beech chips and he refused to eat till I put aspen back.

With yours make sure he has plenty of hiding space as royals stress easy and like to feel secure.

My folks have one but she will now only eat live gerbils. Not interested in already dead prey.

ETA: She also used to be an escape artist. She has been found underneath the grate on the fireplace and upstairs in a suitcase in the airing cupboard.
