bit of an odd one this. I am uploading a youtube vid of what it does.

basically this week its been getting worse. You power it on, Panel illuminates, HDMI appears on the screen then pop, off it goes. TV switches off into standby then returns itself on, gets to HDMI and pop again. does it about 10 or so times before finally kicking in.

does it to scart input too.

it's not the inverter I don't think because the picture is fine and bright. no issues. seems to be the input board.

Any help much appreciated.

I'll bet it's the ccfl tubes ageing.

Some inverters are rather picky, and tired tubes will make the inverter think the tubes have not struck and shut down.

Some sets just shut down the inverter and leave the rest of the set running, other like yours re boot the whole set and try again.

Replacing the tubes is often possible, but it's not a job for the faint hearted and may or may not be worth it.

Sometimes there are tricks that engineers can do to change or disable some of the shutdown parameters of the inverter.

When the picture comes on, is is pure white to start with, or does it have a pink or orange tint for the first few seconds? that's a sure sign the tubes are shot.

How old is the set?

Sounds suspiciously like a Vestel clone with a 17PW20 power supply. The two 4700uf capacitors are a common cause of this. The inverter shutting down doesn't cause the set to revert to standby, it just causes loss of picture leaving sound only on Vestels.

Get it looked at quickly as it can lead to more serious damage, ie corruption of the NVM.

As suggested, it's probably a cheap Vestel clone, and requires the PSU capacitors replacing.

It's certainly the first place to look - it 'might' even be that some have obvious bulging.

The set is about 2 years old. The screen goes black and if the hdmi has synced quick enough you get a picture for a split second before it reboots. As I say when it finally kicks in you get a perfect picture. Probably is a vestel clone so would not surprise me. It won't reboot if nothing is plugged in to it.

Tv is made by sharp, as I found a few stickers inside!. so it's a rebranded sharp.

hope this answers a few queries

Pretty sure this will be psu caps.
Try warming up the power board with a hairdryer before you switch on from cold. If it comes straight on then you have your answer.
I could repair it for you if you would like.

Screen is probably made by Sharp but the rest of the electronics is not. Looks like some Chinese tat to me, certainly not a Vestel.

As Tellyman suggests leave the set overnight then warm up the PSU with a hair drier for several minutes. Power up the set and see if the problem is still there, if it starts OK the electrolytic capacitors are most likely the cause.

Have a look here to see some obviously failed capacitors but some faulty ones can look perfectly OK.

Akura Turkey based in Europe, Hong Kong in the Far East. So, Tv could have come from either...
This might help in sourcing parts...Akura TV parts
