there is something very unappealing about a supposedly mature middle-aged man being obsessed with twittering.

The fact that I can't be bothered with "tweeting" is irrelevant, why on earth does he think the viewers of ALL the programmes he's on want to hear about this flipping twittering!!!!

I also don't believe twitterers represent the views of the general public. Just a certain age group, cyber bullies and computer geeks

His obsession with twitter is what put me off him. He mentions it at every given oppurtunity. Makes me cringe

I think your being a bit stereotypical personally. I am not a kid, not a cyber bully and not a computer geek but I am on twitter.
I don't use it obsessively and use it as a means of keeping in touch with people that I don't have on facebook and keeping up with what others are doing like during DOI at the moment. I don't follow thousands of people or celebs and I don't feel the need to tweet what I am doing every minute of the day and a lot of other people who use it will be the same as well. Phillip does go on about it a bit but then he has gotten into using it in a big way. I find it just an extension of my keeping in touch with people and I guess he sees it as a good way of being able to communicate with fans etc and get peoples views. I think thats the appeal of twitter its pretty much instant communication whereas email and facebook can be delayed twitter can get an instant response. |

I don't get the whole twitter thing, but he does keep on about it, it is pathetic that he is so obsessed with it.

Wow, you lot seem to feel pretty strongly about this! I don't see the problem with him saying one or two things related to it in a show personally - we live in the 21st Century and technology is evolving - why shouldn't that be recognised?
Mini rant over

Im no fan of twitter..however Phil is in a position where he could tweet anything and get millions of replies..so it may be more enjoyable for him? If I tweeted I don't think anyone would reply..guess it depends what about..I also don't work in television so it is probably less important to me? I can understand it's uses but do agree that it doesn't need to be shoved down our throats..although not sure he quite goes that far

Yep I much prefer twitter to facebook. It is what it is - a bit of fun and a way of connecting with people. Yes there are some idiots on there but that's the same everywhere on the net including DS.
![]() it's fun to follow the Dancing on Ice contestants and pros on it as well as the DOI twitter account .. it's an easy way to keep up to date with news on the show and interesting insights into how the training's going when the contestants/pros tweet it has it's faults but on the whole I think it's fun and informative |

Going slightly off-topic but I'm more annoyed by tweeting being referenced in tabloid articles, such as celebrities "tweeting their support" for someone. Really it's just the celebrity seeking attention in a "look how nice I am!" way, so let's not give them more attention by putting these remarks in print!

Phil is paid to mention Twitter...in a way.
Given the widespread popularity and usability of Twitter, it's a guaranteed way of reaching audiences, promoting debate, marketing shows etc. Programmes which rely on audience engagement, like DOI which needs people to vote, can't afford NOT to have a Twitter account to provide an easy, cheap and convenient way of keeping people who follow them up to date. Phil not only has to promote the Twitter account on screen to make sure it gets used, but also relies on it to provide an accurate reflection of current thinking and to keep the live show as 'live' as possible, hence mentioning it at every opportunity. I reckon it's much better to have a DOI account than for Phil's personal account to get deluged with DOI stuff every time there's a controversy - plus, if it's on that account then it's technically official, so they'd struggle to ignore the issue of things like the Karen/jason debacle on air
