I know why they voted to send Andy home last week.

It's obvious the panel were "advised" to save Heidi over Andy because otherwise the majority of the celebs left skating would have been males. They really showed up the females tonight, and last week too.

Jorgie got the top marks last week, and Chemmy was good as well

I don't know why Jorgie got such high marks last week, she didn't do much skating on her own, she just happened to have good lines etc. because she trained as a classical dancer.

However, the point is that so far the male celebs have been far better on average than the females.

I think its mainly to do with Heidi being a bigger name...part of sugababes for over 10 years. They should have kept Andy - Heidi is overshadowed by several other females in the competition now.

The thing is you can't compare a male to a female. A male has to have the strength and the balance on the ice to worry about when doing the lift and all the female has to worry about is the lines and doing the right thing so its a lot easier for a female when doing a lift.

Hardly. the female pro does most of the work unless they are doing the more difficult lifts that someone like Chris could manage - the female pro can adapt more to keep things going if her male is strong enough. There wasn't much for them to do or get wrong tonight. Apart from in the simple carrying lifts, the female has to do the moving, contorting, balancing and to hit the positions and to leave and rejoin the ice. The better females manage to do some of the more difficult lifts and look like a pro - very, very, few of the males can manage anything at all difficult . As the most memorable bit of the routine is probably the lifts, the female celebs also find themselves competing directly with the female pros, while the female pros are taking the attention away from how good or weak their male celeb is.

Once you get to a certain standard of lifts, its a more level playing field and you can compare Chris being able to do something as difficult as a headbanger with Suzanne doing one. Tonight the boys were working at the easier levels of Heidis routine - not Jorgies difficult moves.

No - i think lifts are often over rated. And yes a flexible girl like Jen can make a lift look amazing and take the emphasis off the actual skating. The man has to skate...end of.. I think both sexes have diffciult areas to contend with but on the DOI level, it is much harder to lift that partner over your head, maintain blance and speed than it is to be lifted. It is scary to do many of the lifts (table springs to mind) and the trust has to be here but the actual execution for some one like Jorgie or Jennifer who are trained dancers is not as difficult as the novice male skater lifting the partner into a table lift or even doing a standard floating spin.

I totally disagree - apart from Corey, none of the boys were being held up and led around the ice by their partners, as Heidi was last week. Matthew, Sebastien & Chico, and to some extent Sam, were all rock solid and able to lead and support their partners, as well as perform to a higher level.

A man cannot lift a female on ice or on a normal ground without her helping him. I think most people that know about some degree of dance (whatever forms) and the lifiting technique will know this. If a woman doesn't also elevate herself to some degree he can't pick her up to any real high level and certainly not gracefully either. Plus the woman has to hold the line in the air otherwise he won't balance underneath and she will just fall because she has no core strength on top. Lifting for the females can result in bruised rib/waist/arm areas alot (depening on where the lift comes) from the force of the male grip which is more stonger and forceful than can seem just from a viewers glance (I know this from personal experience too). Lifitng takes two for it to be pulled off.

Andy was better than Hedi last week so should've stayed but in general I don't think the boys where necessarily better. Shemmy and Jogie stood out then and the boys stood out now (this week) it's as simple as that for me.

That kind of opinion works only if you're judging the skating. Trouble is, so many public votes go to their favourites of a soap or a group or whatever other reason.

I think there are the "big money" signings and the ones which are a little more "throwaway".

The ITV execs want to keep their big names in if possible.

Agree. Also it's far easier for female celebs to be able to trust the male pro as he will have been skating years & is solid on the ice, for the female pros it cannot be an easy thing to do to trust a novice skater to lift you over their head even if you have a partner like Matthew. That's why I have so much respect for the female pros on this show.

Showed this thread to my feminist support group.
They started fuming, something about women have to achieve twice as much as men to get any recognition.
