Hey all ,
As from previous thread me and my are looking to adopt kitten from RSPCA centre we are just awaiting home visit and hopefully he will be ours.
When animals are in rescue centres they are given names either from previous owners or from staff there if you have adopted an animal have you changed thier name or kept it ?
I do like the kitten name but I like kooky names lol think as well as we haven't seen his full personality I worry we will give him the wrong name .
Thanks

I was half way home with my rescue kitty Layla, when on the radio I heard the Eric Clapton classic of the same name Couldn't change her name after that

Our family adopted Zebedee and Angel last year. We quite liked Zebedee's name and didn't consider changing it. When we adopted Angel a few months later we weren't keen on her name and thought about renaming her. In the end we decided that she'd had enough changes in her life and we kept her original name.

To be honest I don't think either of them really recognises his/her name. If you call one of them the other is bound to appear.

When we got Hugo 18 months ago, that was his name which seemed to fit him well considering he was built more like a small dog than a cat

I've always changed their names! Feel a bit bad doing it , but then they never seem to respond to their names anyways!!
Plus its one of the fun things about getting a new pet - choosing a name for them!!
We've had some interesting choices over the years - my mum once had a cat named Sausage because she heard the lady who was giving her away say "goodbye my little sausage" & it just stuck - not the best name to be shouting down the street though!!

Our family dog (a huskamute ) was 4 years old when we got him in autumn last year and we were debating whether to change his name which was Ajay as we didnt like it, but thought he might be used to it by then but he didn't respond at all to it, so we renamed him Bandit!! He responds to our voices now anyway so don't think it made a difference, tho we seem to be able to call him anything & he usually ignores us!

I've always kept the names. I have changed one only from Oso to Bobo so it was very similar sounding.

We have always changed the names, when they come from an abusive situation they seem to recover quicker with no reminders. Imagine everytime someone called Ben and you got kicked if the new family call Ben you might expect the same but if they call Duncan you will just think of them for the good things.

When maisey moo found us i did all i could too find her owners. I did find out later they had dumped her in the park. I let her sleep in the kitchen the first night she was exhausted and very hungry and for some reason we picked maisey. I let her out the next morning incase she went home called her back in not realy thinking she would come back and within 20 secs she was back there and her name stuck ever since.

We are picking up our little cat Honey Wednesday and she is such a honey pie that it fits her perfectly, so we won't be changing it. She was found abandoned - her owners moved out and left her in the flat - so Honey is her name for adoption.

we changed all our cats names. They were given names such as Trixie (didn't suit her one bit) she is now Alice, another was named Teddy (quite apt as it's like having a living teddy bear but it doesn't really suit him) and he is now called Nelson.

I adopted 2 cats from Cats Protection last June shortly after my darling 16 year old Tabitha had died. I particularly wanted a tabby cat like Tabitha and the rescue had 2 tabbies (one's actually tabby and white) who were bonded called Tibby and Tara. It seemed like fate that I should take them both because both their names had elements of Tabitha. However, although their names suited them I know I would have found it too painful to continue with those names so I renamed them Millie and Lucy - but I think their old names probably suited them better. I rehomed my other cat Bernard from a friend who was emigrating and I would never have picked that name myself but I would never have considered renaming him and I think it really suits him now.

Both our cats were originally called ginger - so just as well we changed them both

When I got my dog Sammy she was called Tanny. But the name given to her was just name Battersea gave her as she was a stray. I felt it was roo bland and came up with Sammy on the way home. That stuck a lot better.

Such cute names 😄 when I visited the kitten that I hoping to adopt yesterday looked at some other cat names in the centre there was ant and dec , I know that's a well known duo but Imagine at 3am shouting for ant and dec , your neighbours may call the men in white coats lol my bf when we moved in together used to worry people would think he was crazy for shouting for nutkin lol my other cat sooty who has passed away was a more normal name but she choose that , when we picked her up I kept saying names and she kept meowing to sooty so it stuck
