The BBC are covering the Indoor Bowls championships from Monday to Saturday so there isn't a hope of them showing the Euros but there is a highlights programme on BBC2 on Sunday January 29th January from 1pm until 2.30pm........that is unless Great Britain qualifies for the Black Pudding tossing finals and then the BBC will scramble to get exclusive coverage! that a joke BTW

Pleased to hear Aliona is OK, fingers crossed. I have a feeling they will get beaten by Voloshar and Trankov, who are also pretty sensational.

I wonder what happened with Isabel Delobel and Olivier Schoenfelder? Isobel had a baby and they were supposed to come back and compete again but never did!

They did come backfor the Olympics in Vancouver. Can't remember where they finished - in top 10 I think but they didn't challenge for the medals.

They finished 6th if I remember properly and retired, and are doing shows now. He in particular was an amazing skater with beautiful edges. He is on the coaching team of the UK ice dancers Walden and Edwards who compete this week.

Looking forward to seeing Plushenko and Joubert compete! and I hope the Germans win the pairs also.
Such a pity about the minimal coverage of the championships by Eurosport this year

Plushenko competed in the preliminaries last night - assume that's due to him not having competed in the last couple of years. Needless to say he won comfortably.

Still seems to be a question mark over Savchenko's fitness.

Robin tweeted to say there was red button coverage on the BBC from Thursday, anyone know what time the ice skating is on?

Really surprised that discussion on the Europeans is hidden in the DOI forum rather than sport where it belongs. It took someone to point it out so I could find it here. However, I suppose it's indicative of the trivialisation of figure skating that DOI has fostered.. Smudges Mum (who skated in the UK nationals and was a coach) refuses to watch DOI.

However, we paid £160 each for season tickets and so far we've seen the mens' and womens' prelims (Smudges Mum was in raptures over Plusenko and had a big smile on her face when Petrenko appeared with the skater he's coaching).

Oh, sorry, it's obvious that anyone watching DOI clearly isn't a 'proper' fan of figure skating and should be posting anything approaching a professional take on the sport in a forum not completely populated by people who enjoy watching skating, where it'll get sneered at by people who think that anything with artistic judges doesn't count as a competitive sport, rather than appreciated for the exhibition of athleticism and skill it is.

I don't give a damn what your OH thinks about DOI - she wouldn't be the first ex-pro to feel that way and I bet she won't be the last. In no way do those opinions invalidate my enjoyment of the show, and I think it's incredibly patronising and ill-informed to suggest that people who DO watch it think that Torvill and Dean still represent the be-all and end-all of competitive figure skating.

Take your £160 tickets and stuff them somewhere appropriate.

Oooh! Get you!
If you don't like the discussion, then don't reply.

As it's the first holiday for over 2 years (albeit in Sheffield), we'll spend our money where we want to and if you prefer watching a parody of skating crossed with a soap opera with celebrities who don't even fit on the alphabet, then that's fine by me. I'm happy to spend time watching skill and athleticism live instead.

At least we got to see the Kerrs skating today in the opening ceremony, a couple criminally ignored by DOI while pandering to T&D and the less successful barber and Slater.

If anyone else wants to talk about the Europeans, I'd love to hear your opinions (after 8 hours today, I need some light relief).

Be happy Lorelei Lee

To me comparing DOI & top class competitive skating is pointless. Personally I enjoy both but DOI is a fun TV entertainment/reality show and nothing more/nothing less.

The fact that the thread you started in the sports forum got barely any repsonse I'm afraid signifies that the sports forum regulars aren't interested. You don't have to look at or post in the other threads about DOI on here if you don't wish to but probably not the best idea to have adopted a sneering tone in your 1st post here.

I also think that lack of recognition for the Kerrs is more the fault of the sports media than DOI. But should we be surprised when the (male) sports editors of our national newspapers failed to nominate any women for Sports Personality of the Year. Sadly for them very little sport exists outside of football, rugby & cricket.

Anyway back on topic. Hope you enjoyed the Pairs Short & Short Dance sessions. Am gutted that Robin & Aliona had to withdraw as I was so excited about seeing them skate live. Still there was no point in her potentially making the injury worse and they have won this title many times, i don't think they would want to compete & give anything less than 100%. Looks like the Russians will have a clean sweep and it's really Volosozhar/Trankov's to lose now.

Great to see Penny & Nick do so well in the Dance - 4th is a great result for them and it appears that working with Evgeny Platov is paying real dividends for them. They are less than 2 points from the bronze medal although there is also less than half a point between them & the 7th placed couple. Makes for a great Free Dance on Friday and should be a great fight between the Russians and the French couple for gold too.

Bloody schedulers - putting Plushenko in the first group for the Men's short. It will be a real race against time to watch him - trains better not be playing up tomorrow. All the other top men are in the final 2 groups & should be in plenty of time for that. Guess i better go to bed and prepare for the journey in the morning.

I found a Russian stream that's supposed to be showing all the events live: http://www.piranya.com/video-russia.php?from=sport

There are time schedules here: http://www.isuresults.com/results/ec2012/index.htm

The British skater was just on... why do all Britain's skaters seem to choose Linkin Park?! Lol. Plushenko up soon.

Thanks for the link. just got on to it in time to see Plushenko.
Can't believe it is happening in Sheffield and yet we have to watch an online Russian link.

Gachinski just finished ahead of Plushenko... did not see that one coming.

I wish Fernandez had scored higher, he's been so great this season.

Actually, as I started the thread because I was interested in who else was going to the European Championships, I think I qualify pretty well to reply to the discussion it's generated.

Feel free. It was the fact you felt the need to mention how much the tickets cost at all that caused me to throw it back in your face. Why mention how much things cost unless you wish to brag in the most useless and pathetic of ways?

As you obviously haven't bothered to read from the top of the thread - where you'd a) notice who started it and b) notice I also have a ticket - then I'm not sure I'm the idiot in this discussion.

Patronize me when you've learned to read, dear.

That all said, I am very happy to learn the Kerrs skated in the opening ceremony, which makes it all the more annoying that DOI won't offer them a guest appearance. S'pose it's the Kerrs' fault for saying they didn't think much of the show in the past.
