I really cant see the point in Jay being in the square any more. I like him in the sense that he seems like a nice enough person, but I thought they went against his character by making Phil 'adopt' him and have Jay worship him as if he's his father. I thought it would be more in Jays personality to see Phil as the bully he is and take a stand against him.

He was better with Billy , and apart from that why would Phil ever take in a random kid and treat him like his son. Its not in his character at all.

Plus there are occasionally these cringeworthy scenes which make me think the producers are trying to turn him into some kind of 'hardman, or turn him and Ben into thug brothers.

I'd get rid of Ben sooner but yes I agree with your points about Jay & The Mitchells but I think if they were to introduce some of Jase's family and remove him from the Mitchells I do think there's potential for Jay as Jamie Borthwicks a fantastic actor. Plus, with no living relatives that he knows of or is in contact with (i.e. Bert) where would Jay go? He's only 16

The whole thing with Phil taking Jay in was to do with Phil wanting the son that he feels hes never had/missing out on with Ben IMO.

No I don't agree, they just need to get him away from the Mitchells, Phil in particular, and give him his own storylines. He needs more screentime; at the moment he almost seems like an extra the amount he's being underused.

Actually it is in his character. I think people overlook the impact Jamie's death had on Phil.

no way! I think he has so much potential as an actor and character which EE need to develop. I love his no nonsense attitude (eg towards Ben)

Phil treated Jamie like crap from what I remember? He was a bit emotional at the time but it was all swept under the carpet after that. I dont get how Phil was meant to be his guardian? When Jamie came in he was a grown kid and was being looked after by Billy wasnt he?

Billy used to beat the crap out of him and I think Phil started to treat Jamie like crap when he helped Lisa to get away with Louise. When he died in hospital you could see that Phil saw him as his son which is why he continued to look out for Sonia from that point on.

When Spencer stole money from the Pub because he owed Jack money, Phil was going to throw them out but after Alphie said something about Spencer looking up to him yada yada, Phil looked at a picture of Jamie. Which caused him to pay Jack on Spencer's behalf and forget about throwing the Moon brothers out.

Him taking Jay in isn't that big of a shock.

I like him and want him to stay, i think theres loads of characters that are there but not really involved as much but that doesnt mean they should be fired for it. Jay in real life is a nice guy as well, so ive heard from people near to me, plus he doesnt live to far away from where i live either

I never expected Jay to become a Mitchell. I really liked his relationship with Billy and the kids. I just don't believe Jay would've changed his name to Mitchell.

I really like Jay! He is one my favourite on EastEnders at the moment, he needs more screen time and better story lines!! Maybe a big controversy with the Mitchell's? or he sorts Ben out for once and for all.... Definitely DONT get rid of him!

I think Jay could become a great character in the future if he's removed from the Mitchells. Introducing some of the Dyers could be a great way to bring in a much needed new family, sever Jay from the Mitchells and punish Phil by having him lose his dream son and face the fact all he has to carry on the Mitchell legacy is his gay, emotionally disturbed son.

With Billy he was great, accepted Billy was his guardian and remained Jay Brown/Dyer.

In storms Bryan Dirkwood and Jay has a personality transplant, leaves Billy and moves in with Phil, forgets his dad and changes his name to Mitchell in months.

Absolute crap. He's been ruined - get rid!

He did when Lola was having her scan. At least he acknowledged the connection he once had with Billyl, for the first time in about 2 years.

I actually think Jay has been far better written recently, he is lonely and has always longed for a family so I can see why he wants to be close to Phil as he probably sees him as the dad he never had.

I understand the OP's points about Jay and agree with many of them, however I do like Jay and think the actor is very competent. They just need to find a "place" for him on the show and utilise him.
