I agree with a few previous posts. There are too many adverts, and too many contestants. The camera shots from above and long distance are so annoying, and the BBC 's midwife drama is compelling viewing. The first week I recorded it, but this week I watched it as it ran because Jorgie, Chico and Matt had already skated by 8.00pm and they're all I wanted to see until the skate-off.

Agree with too many celebs and too many adverts. Actually, it's not so much the adverts that bug me, but the constant plugging of competitions. When the main show is already over two hours, they need to cut out the blatent filler.
The quality of the celebs is fine this year. Better than last year at least. Katerina is a massive improvement on Emma, but I think the jury is out on Louie. Most of his compliments come from people who didn't like Jason and are thrilled he's gone, or amazed he's not as annoying as normal. I think they need to push Katterina more. Maybe she's not interested, but has she done any press for the show yet? |

It just goes to show how different a perspective people have.
I think that this year series in one of the best they've had. The panel's comments are far more constructive and the overall show is more enjoyable. That's my opinion anyway. |

That's a depressing thought.
And surely Katarina's presence must balance that as she is a vast vast improvement on the banal & bland Bunton. I still think the long shows aren't helping and there were too many celebs to start off with which exacerbates the former problem. 14 should be the max with 12 the ideal number really. |

It seems that the last DOI pulled in only 7.3 million viewers, the lowest-rated episode in its history.
Apparently it is being said behind closed-doors that axing caustic judge Jason Gardiner was potentially a catastrophic mistake. The story is that many people tuned in just to hear what outrageous insult Jason would throw at a hapless celebrity after their performance, thus he was good box office and the ratings so far are proving that. |

Personally I'd rather the show had lower ratings than Jason being on the panel. Does TV (even commercial TV like ITV) always have to pander to the lowest common denominator?

Nowadays it DOES seem that the lowest common denominator has sway in regard to programming. Whilst I'll admit that I was not looking forward to Louie Spence being on the panel, I have been very pleasantly surprised. On other programmes he's done he can be very outrageous, but he has the ability to temper this on DOI and comes over very well and is also very pertinent and constructive with his comments. There now seems to be a need to have a 'baddy' on a panel for some viewers these days - a sort of Pantomime villian for the audience to boo. Personally the very often pointless and unpleasant remarks that Jason Gardiner used make to the contestants is something that I can happily live without. |

Losing Jason was a mistake for the ratings. People on here didn't like him, but he got the show publicity and people tuned in to hear what he had to say.
Also ITV don't seem to do the best they can with the show. Why did they stop the daily show (the one like ITT. on DOI)? If they did that right it would keep the interest going. But mainly bring back a Jason character, otherwise the show is bland, and peeps ( not those on here of course) like an 'edge' to this type of prog. |

But is the show gonna be seen as bland by people that like controversy? I still like to enjoy a show that doesn't need to resort to having a villain judge as long as the quality of comments, abilty(skating/dancing/etc.), and contestants is high, then I can have my entertainment right there.
Unfortunately the show cannot survive with just the hard core fans who would post on here. They rely on the viewer who isn't into the skating as much and want edgy entertainment. Look how X Factor dipped this year with no Simon Cowell telling it how it is, and the same with BGT. |

Its the best series in ages IMO. Its definitely got its sparkle back after last year. New judges are brilliant (esp that goddess Katarina). To hell with the ratings.....just keep making the show for me

I think the purists enjoy it still - but the loss of Jason and the shortage of real celebs is a problem re attracting the viewers. The only celebs I can warm to - bar Chico - are the weaker skaters who will go out early.
The two obvious potential winners - just don't come across as really very likeable and seem to lack depth. And that potentially means quite a dull end to the series - with few caring who wins. PS There is also Call the midwife on BBC1 - which is a really great show and appeals to women viewers - DOI's target audience. So that doesn't help either! |

I liked it at first , but one or two series would have been enough as its just getting worse by the week. Ice skaters don't watch it , NISA don't like it and some of the professionals are not liked ,as they are not as sweetness and light as they try to portray on t.v.

It's laziness and greediness that the website is so poor. When the new line-up was announced, I thought I'd go there to watch all of the clips of the new contestants, but each short clip had two or three compulsory adverts as if I was about to watch a full tv show. The same adverts were being repeated, and it was taking so long that I gave up. It's so counter-productive. Personally, I think the show is good this year, but ITV relied on a bit of controversy from Jason to get the casual fan through the over-long shows. They were wise to make last night's episode shorter, and to change the format. Last week a lot of people were tuning in late, and that sort of thing does dent viewing figures, as does the BBC having some decent competition for the first time in years. |

I don't know about others but sometimes I like to go out on a Sunday evening for dinner, cinema or just drinks and a chat with friends so are obv not around to watch the main/results show every single weekend. I don't always record shows either as I can just youtube stuff later on. What's the big deal if atings go up and down, doesn't it just show that people sometimes have a social life.

Ratings went up this week, undoubtedly because the show was shorter IMO. I love the show but almost 3 hours last week if you include results was pushing it and if that's how I feel as a fan of the show I can only imagine what casual viewers think.
