When will they get too old to skate like this?

They are pretty old already, so i'm surprised they are this good

Old? OLD??

The Protopopovs are still dancing in their 70s so I hope we have many many more years of Jayne and Chris yet to come.

" Aaah yes", the wonderful Protopopovs.Next to Torvill and Dean they are my favourite skaters of all time. I did'nt realize they were still skating though, thought they retired back in 1992. Love that routine and their choice of music.

They are too old, its embarrassing . No wonder they never invite current ice dance champions on the show.

Errrm, current ice dance champions CAN'T appear on DOI, it's against the eligibility rules of the International Skating Union. It's only skaters who are professional performance skaters rather than competitive skaters who can appear on DOI, Skating with the Stars or any other similar show.

The eligibility rules with regard to DOI and similar shows, are explained in the two attached documents on this section of the NISA website. Basically what they say is that anyone who appears on a skating entertainment show with any form of judging loses their eligibility. You'll note that the restriction isn't just about pro partners - even judges and other officials seem to be banned from appearing on such shows, so I doubt skaters can make even a guest appearance.

Oh, and the Kerrs described DOI as "pants" a few years ago so they presumably aren't interested in making an appearance anyway; no idea about any other current skaters.

They are only in their 50s for goodness sake and still slim and fit and well able to do some pretty exciting routines!

Some of the pros are almost up there with them - Sean is 48 and Jodeyne 46 - and they are still doing PAIRS routines never mind ice dancing.....

Think you've added aout 10 years to Sean & Jodeyne's age.

Yup, according to wikipedia, Jodeyne was born in September 1974, making her 37, and Sean was born in July 1972, making him 39. They're definitely not in their late 40s.

I know the rules , I should have said professional Ics dancers.

I know NISA weren't happy about people entering the search for a star thing they did a couple of years ago.

And I agree with Sinead.

I would prefer to see younger more able ice dancers , if you think their routines are exciting watch the Europeans . I think you will realise that T&D are actually quite boring, they do the same moves every week just in a different order!

Jayne & Chris are skating royalty, and it's a privilidge to see them still skating, especially live on the tours.

Of course they are not as agile as they were (who would be in their 50s?) but they still interpret the music beautifully and I love to see them perform.

Totally agree!

Jayne and Chris have something very special in their skating partnership and are still able to ice dance beautifully together.
Long may they continue.

I don't ever remember the Kerrs saying DOI was pants, but they did say they were horrified by the safety aspects of it - throwing barely trained girls into above-head lifts etc. and the impact it could have on the pros' career if it went wrong.

Sinead also changed her tune rather quick when she retired and wanted to expand her media career, at which point she said she'd love to be a DOI judge.

To be fair, I'd like that too - for all the respect I have for Robin and Katerina, they're solo skaters and they're way past their competing days. It would be great to have a more up-to-date name who was actually a pairs skater (or were the Kerrs ice dance - I forget? Either would be fine by me)

The Kerrs are Ice dancers & not pairs. IIRC it was John who was critical of the show (at least publicly) not Sinead.
