Strictly, Alternatively

Football league in the UK is played for 8 months of the year, while horseracing goes on all year round. Strictly goes on for 3 months. With nationwide appetite growing, there would seem room for a longer season, or better still for two shorter seasons: say winter Strictly from October to Xmas with 12 couples, then summer Strictly from April to May with say 8 couples, the way it was with SCD2/SCD3.

There should be two separate BBC management teams, encouraged to evolve and compete. If winter management prefer to emphasise west end showdance and comic clips, then summer management could focus on learning to dance and reality TV. Some likeable celebs who cannot commit to the winter season could accept a summer gig, ditto for pro dancers. A separate panel of host/hostess, judges and pro dancers should appear in each season giving it a refreshing look and feel. Competition will encourage quality.

Overseas imports brought in some terrific pro dancers and BBC looks set to continue this. With two seasons there would be more room for UK dancers now being squeezed out. Everything depends on audience appetite: not for two helpings of the same pudding, rather for summer fruits then winter treats.

It this thread generates debate and suggestions, a poll will be added later, with results sent to the BBC.

I tried to get some thoughts together for a worldwide legends version and got very little response - those that did seemed to think they only want one scd a year DOI seemed to be the fill up thew few who posted needed

I suspect not many are posting due to the lunatics

That would be a good idea. If they had SCD on in the summer for six weeks and had different judges it would be more refreshing. Also they could have different presenters like Vernan Kay with Kara. I only say Vernon because of rumours were going around about him. Also I think Karen Hardy could judge and Louis Spence or Andrew Stone.
Oh and Leftfeet to hell with the lunatics!!They arent going to run this asylum!!!

I would like to but can see that there may well be a problem finding enough celebs to take part

It seems a very big commitment and current sportspeople or current working actors would find it too difficult to undertake such a long commitment

I know you get working actors or one show presenters at present but mostly it is people who have no ongoing programme

it would be interesting to know how difficult strictly finds it to get people to fill the current once a year format

Summer Strictly would not be a miniature of Strictly but a breath of fresh air. After 9 seasons Strictly has become very established and hidebound by past precedent. It could do with reinvention involving fresh management and audience input, possibly with a different mix of celebrities, building on past experience but not bound by the past.

Like summer school or summer holidays Summer Strictly would have a different feel to it.

Recruitment of celebs would be easier for a 6-week gig. Every year the celebs were mentally and physically exhausted towards the end. Starting with 14 couples, SCD9 needed 2 nights to get past Week 1, and it was a long slog to lose the candidates recruited like Generation Game jokes, always known to be going.
