GNR Venturer TV/DVD combi set

Bought (Charity Shop, Bri Heart) a GNR Venturere TV/DVD player combi LCD set. DVD player works, but can`t get a TV picture -screen shows the channel numbers but is plain, solid blue -not a flicker of a picture.
Does the set require a Digibox perhaps - it looks modern and slim enough to be digital already. In the shop it was working on the TV ,BBC2. Maybe the shop has an aerial system that runs off a master Digibox or some such?
When I queried this, the guy I spoke to didn`t seem too clued-up technically, but thought it wouldn`t be running through a Digibox.
Any thought,suggestions, please?

Search that Model Number's User Guide on the Venturer website or in your search engine? It may be an analogue tuner only model as you have guessed.

Always Obtain A Copy Of The Manufacturers' Instructions!

The obvious check is have you tried retuning it? The method of doing this should be reasonably obvious from the menu. (I'm assuming you've plugged it into an aerial that you know works).

If it is analogue only it's not a real problem, you can pick up a Freeview set top box really cheaply from Ebay.

Thanks, guys. the instruction manual wasn`t available - I did ask! I`ve tried 3 aerials, will try via a set-top box which is in use on another TV. Couldn`t locate anything via a search engine.

Or a PVR will give you a good home entertainment set-up for your new purchase. Good to know BHF profitted by your buy

Not a `boy named Sue` then? Hey, I`m the pedant(t) on here!
Yeah,Sue, I`m all `heart` - I`ll keep the set anyway,although they have said I may return it.
Thanks again, gal - will post an update (if and when I have it operating).

Linked the Venturer up to a digibox set up on another TV today. Managed to get the main ITV channel (3) showing Columbo at the time. Oddly, none of the other channels produced as much as a flicker, just the plain, solid blue screen. I screened the ITV channel by pressing a `function` button, which then showed the picture, with a message at the top, something like " Scart lead connected to RGB" whatever that might mean. Snag is, across much of the picture was a panel/window stating something on the lines of " 2 channels lost" and something else about another 2 channels. It invited me to press the `OK` Return button, but this produced no reaction - the message panel remained, rendering the programme unwatchable - it took up about a third of the screen. So, not much the wiser really - dunno where to go from this point.

Search Engine model number of the TV one more time?

Otherwise I'd bite the bullet and call you local TV repairers: it depends on what you're willing to pay out to get everything working.

Hmm...I think my next step will be to buy a digibox from Bri Heart, then if no joy with that, take the set back to Bri Heart, ask them to plug in and see what they can produce in the way of channels. If just the corrupted one, I`ll reject the set and settle for a refund. Not sure what I`ll do if they can screen all the freeview channels though....

Sounds like it has an analog tuner only, no digital tuner.

From an 'Initial Setup' or 'Factory Reset' menu, the TV usually asks if you want to 'scan for channels'.
Most TVs I've come across that have both types of tuner fitted will scan digital first, and than ask if you would also like to 'scan for analog channels'.
If it's only scanning once without a second option, I reckon it's analog only.

You got the watchable ITV channel by pressing 'Function', which switched to the scart RGB input from your digibox. If you had then changed channels on the digibox, this would have shown on the TV.

By pressing a number key on the TV remote, you've probably come out of 'scart mode' and back to analog-TV mode.

A basic Freeview box connect by scart should do the job OK.

Stylo, thank you, that is i`m sure the answer -I hadn`t thought of using the digibox remote at the time, should have done though! Hope to get up and running with it now. I was talking to someone and mentioned about scanning for channels. She suggested leaving the set on overnight and that it would automatically scan for available channels. I think she had personal experience of this, but it seems a bit unlikely to me..

I never leave AV equipment on overnight unless I need the PVR to record something in the middle of the night.

http://www.tvretune.co.uk/ may have your STB or PVRs user manual and/or retune guide for you to save. Hope you get it all working alright now. The TV itslef may use AV or an arrowed button or the 0 to switch to the output of the STB or PVR.
