I have set my Htc Desire S for Email but my problem is that any emails I now receive get downloaded automatically to the phone so this means that I can't download them onto my laptop where I prefer to have them. Is there a way to set the phone for a manual download? I am with Ntl.

Sounds as though you are running POP with 'leave mail on server' unticked.
You don't say which email app you are using.
You would be better using IMAP if ntl/Virgin support it.

How did you get the settings in the first place?

If you use the HTC Mail app then go into the account in question touch the "Menu" button under the screen then "More" then "Settings"

Select the section "Send & Receive". Scroll down to reveal "Delete mail on server" and untick that.

Repeat for any other accounts you have. The other mail apps on the Desire will more than likely have similar settings somewhere but I only use the HTC app as it seems to be the best of those on offer.

Thanks for the replies. I have now done a factory reset and after discovering that an NTL email address cannot be used for sending emails will for the moment stick to emailing on a laptop.

Get a Gmail account and have it pick up your NTL male then use Gmail as an IMAP account.

I've got a Gmail account which has to be set up on the HTC. I can receive mail OK using the NTL settings for incoming mail the problem is sending mail as the NTL settings do not work, Do you mean using the Gmail settings in the sending settings bit which requires an SMTP.xxx.xxx address which I don't have.

If you can send emails on the pc, then you should be able to do the same on the phone. Have you tried using the same settings from the pc on the phone?

VM email may require that email is only sent via a VM connection... fine for the phone when at home on WiFi, not so fine when using 3G.

Matt D is correct.

What I do is have a gmail account ( to set up on an HTC phone look here http://support.google.com/mail/bin/a...er=114408&rd=1 ) - I then have my VM account set up to forward mail to my gmail account.

When replying gmail can be set so that it appears the reply came from your VM account, or your gmail account, as you wish.

I think, that's what I said!!

I actually use GMX for email and they make it even easier to pick up all your emails from wherever.
