Actually I don't agree I like his voice in it, it contrasts with Kate's very nicely.

It certainly is an album that takes a bit of listening to but now starting to prefer it to Aerial. Snowed In at Wheeler Street and 50 Words for Snow are my two stand out tracks!

It's not that bad - I just detest the man, ANYONE but him! And I agree on the title track - love the whispery way she counts up to 50.
Aerial is still better IMO

If you have no preconceptions and just listen to it. It's a beautiful piece of work.

yep, your absolutely right OP, he totally ruins that song for me too.

Haven't really listened to this album much though, not really had the time to listen to it, unfortunately.

Have to agree with the OP. Wheeler Street is,to my ears, horrible. I have to skip it. The rest of the album is,thankfully, sublime. I'd like Kate to re-record Wheeler Street with Peter Gabriel. Please

Sorry, EJ fans,

I think Snowflake is by far the best track on the album, her sons voice is just beautiful.

I have to say I'm a little confused by all the hatred for Elton John, I'm not a fan but 'Snowed In at Wheeler Street' is by far my favourite song on the album and both vocalists put in great performances in my opinion. If any of the guest vocalists are irritating, for me it is her son, though he does have a beautiful voice that fits 'Snowflake' well, his mannerisms start to get on my nerves after a few minutes.

Interesting. I've loved KB music since she began, and there's nothing wrong with Bertie singing, but Snowflake was, for me, boring and repetitive. Just didn't get it. The title track, and Wild Man are my favourites. I think what I wanted, was a wintry version of Ariel, but what I got was something more like early KB albums; two or three superb tracks, and the rest I can take or leave.

At this point, I'm actually preferring Director's Cut, and would love to hear lots more reinterpretations. In particular, of the early stuff, where KB's voice was much higher. Her voice today is so much better, I can imagine some - but by no means all - early songs being improved by reworking.

Ive had a bit of a re-evaluation of Directors Cut. Played it last night and really enjoyed it, especially the new Moments of Pleasure. The only Kate album I get nothing from is Sensual World. Sooooooo boring and brown

Id love to hear new versions of

Moving
Symphony in Blue
The Saxophone Song
Warm and Soothing
All The Love
Feel It
In The Warm Room
Infants Kiss
The Kick Inside
Breathing

That would make a good album, imo

It's one of my favourites, just behind Hounds of Love and Ariel (with the latter being the most played), and I love 'Never Be Mine' and 'Rocket's Tail' , etc. Each to our own, of course, but I'm failing to see how anyone can class those songs, or 'Heads We're Dancing' as in any way boring.

I've been playing this album obsessively since its release. I think it might be my favourite Kate album. Every track is perfect, and I actually love the Elton duet and can't believe so many people hate it. My favourite track is Lake Tahoe, though it took several listens for me to really appreciate it. Once the song clicked for me, though, I think it's Kate's best work along with A Coral Room.

All in all, a masterpiece of an album and one of my favourites of 2011.

I love the sensual world its like her older romantic counterpart to the teen romanticism of kick inside especially songs like the fog and rocket's tail its a great album the only one i hate is the red shoes now thats boring MOR rock at its most bland.

And i understand why EJ is there as kate is a long time fan but he is a bitter old queen that brings little to the song could have been any number of people like Peter Gabriel indeed

I think shes used male voices from men that make you do a double take when you read who they are: Steven Fry, Rolf Harris, Prince, Lenny Henry & old Elton himself.

I always imagine she'll use very romantic sounding male vocalists like Billy Mackenzie (RIP), Marc Almond, Ferry/Bowie, but, she does choose them specifically!

Well, I listened to Snowed In At Wheeler Street again just yesterday and I still can't see anything wrong with Elton John's performance on the song whatsoever. I know we all have our own opinions but the hatred for his contribution to the track is always going to completely baffle me. I'm not even an Elton John fan - of his music or his personality - but I just can't see what's so awful when it comes to his inclusion and performance here.

Just listening to Snowflake now, beautiful! Sad to say I can't really get into the album as a whole, and Kate's my favourite singer.

She'll never reach the high notes of those early songs again, so it would have to be recorded in a much lower register and they would sound very different.

I hope she doesn't re-record any more songs but just new material from now on.

I'd love to hear her remake more old songs, I loved Director's Cut! Just wish she'd done You're The One.

I think it's an album you either connect with or you don't. People definitely seem to love it or hate it, a bit like Aerial.

This album did it for me right away, aside from a couple of tracks - and even they grew on me in the end. I find it a really magical piece of work, and I love Kate's mature, earthy tones. It's a really soothing, comforting album for me.

I guess I just prefer the immediacy of her other albums. Perhap's Kate's moved on as an artist and I've yet to catch up!
